Tuesday’s game between Patuxent Panthers and La Plata Warriors featured two very evenly matched teams.  The game provided many punch and counter-punch innings to entertain the sparse crowd on a cold afternoon in La Plata.

Patuxent took an early 1-0 lead in the first with a leadoff walk from sophomore Robert Stone who promptly stole second and third. Hitting third in the lineup, senior Mason Calvert doubled in Stone.  After the double, La Plata was able to get a strikeout and a ground out to strand Calvert at third.

La Plata got on the board making it 1-1 in the bottom of the second with a solo homerun from Austin Brown who reached base three out of four times on the day. The Warriors then took the lead in the bottom of the third with back to back singles from Jarrod Schmitz and Peytyn Gray. Calvert would then hit a sacrifice fly to right driving in Schmitz.  The sac fly tied the game once again at two.

Both teams would score once in the fourth. Patuxent started off the fourth with a leadoff walk from senior Tanner Zinn. After a wild pitch and a past ball, Zinn would score on a sacrifice fly from senior Nate Kistler.  The next batter Curtis Robey would walk but would be stranded at third as La Plata pitcher Shane Kirby finished off his day on the mound with back to back strikeouts.

For La Plata,  Brown came to the plate and reached drawing a walk.  He then surprised both teams by breaking for second base and advancing to third on a wild throw from the plate.  David Hayes then doubled to drive Brown in. The fourth inning would end with the Warriors up 3-2 on the Panthers.

Patuxent started off the fifth inning with the first two hitters reaching base. Brian King singled, Stone walked and then Sayo Kintunde (Towson) cleared the bases hitting a three run homer to right.  His three run homer would prove to be the winning runs as the Warriors were able to add a run in the bottom of the inning on an RBI double from Zach Harris.  In the bottom of the seventh, La Plata had runners on first and second but could not drive in the tying run.

Patuxent improves to 7-4 and La Plata falls to 7-4 on the season.
