Loyola Blakefield, Maryland
Loyola Blakefield made the trek down south for the inaugural PBR Spring Break Experience at LakePoint. They got things kicked off on Thursday night against East Cobb Academy. Washington College (MD) commit, Danny Sheeler provided the offense early on. He went 2-2 with three RBI’s in game one. Sheeler is a powerful left-handed bat in the Loyola line-up. Had a great approach, and the ability to spray balls to all parts of the fields. Chris Lopez took the mound in game one for Loyola. A 2021, right handed pitcher that filled up the zone with an upper 70’s fastball. Mixed in the curveball at 68-69.
ECB Academy struggled to find the zone early, and the Loyola offense capitalized on it. Sheeler recorded his second hit of the day in the second inning with a two RBI double. Ben Link, another left-handed bat in the line-up had a single in the second to plate a few more runs. A couple other highlights of the game was Sean Kelly’s home run to left, and Army commit, Dominic Dinoto’s triple to center field. Max Markle took over for Lopez on the mound. Markle’s fastball was 72-75, and a slow 12-6 curveball that really gave hitters trouble.
The Don’s took a day off from games to get some practice time in, but were back in action on Saturday for a double header against Titans Baseball Academy and ECB Academy again. Mikey Jensen took the mound for game two of the event. Jensen’s fastball was 80-83 topping out at 84. Smooth, effortless delivery from the righty. Really gets down the mound, and gets behind the baseball. Looked strong from the wind-up and stretch. He attacked down in the zone, and forced contact.

Once again Danny Sheeler took care of the offense in the first innings with a RBI single. Jack Belbot had a great day at the plate, with three hits on the day. Belbot is an athletic framed lefty with a smooth swing. Does a great job taking pitches back-side, a perfect three-hole candidate in the Loyola lineup. Josh Braxton also had a great day at the plate with two hits. The 2022 is a intriguing prosepect with a well built frame, and tons of athleticism.

Mount St. Mary’s commit, Stephen Schenning took over for Jensen on the mound, another strong arm out of the Loyola bullpen. Schenning was up to 86 with he fastball. Settled in at 83-85. Complimented the fastball with a high spin slider at 73-75. Good arm action, with a strong base project well, and promised more velo to come.

Trey Oakley did a great job off the bench for the Dons. The strong framed left handed bat had a solid weekend at the plate. Had a multiple hit weekend, and drove in runs when he needed to. Loyola took care of game two 10-0. They looked to finish the sweep in the second game of the double-header against ECB Academy.
Nate Beal got the ball in their Spring Break Experience finale. The Pennsylvania commit did not disappoint. Showed some electric stuff in the first innings. Fastball was up to 92 with really good life. Sat 89-91 the entire first inning. Showed the power slider a couple times at 71-75. He had kids jumping out of the box, with the ball ending up in the strike zone. High effort delivery, really gets down the mound with a good back leg drive. Stayed in the zone, no bad misses. A lot to look forward to in Beal.

Loyola Blakefield took the finale and finished the week off 3-0. I look forward to seeing them compete this spring in Maryland. They have a strong bullpen, with starters that can control a heavy amount of innings for them. Their offense is led by Dominic Dinoto, Josh Braxton, and Jack Belbot with Danny Sheeler and Trey Oakley supplying the power behind them. Sean Kelly will be a key piece in the outfield, and getting on base to use his speed.
