Thomas Keehn, RHP/IF, DeMatha Catholic, 2019 (Duke)

Scouting Report

2/11/18 - Mid Atlantic ProCase

Keehn has really begun to fill out his frame and is playing the part as well. At the plate it was a little longer path at the plate, but Keehn showed bat speed and some explosion as well, Keehn was a solid defender in the field, looking like he has filled out to fill a third base role. On the mound, it was a clean delivery and arm action that produced 92 with regular effort. Really like his breaking ball that showed true 12/6 action that bottomed out at times.

10.12.16 - 6-foot 180-pounds (Dematha Catholic, MD).  Keehn has an athletic, sturdy build, and has a chance to be a two-way player at the next level.  Played hard at shortstop to get to balls, but projects to be more of a corner guy.  At the plate has a sturdy stance with a slight crouch and hand slightly wrapped next to his ear.  Loads hands down and back with a toe tap from his front foot with minimal stride.  Hands move well through the zone.  On the mound he utilizes a quick arm with a short arm stroke to produce a fastball that sat 85-87.  Keehn’s fastball jumps on hitters with a second gear after being released right next to his ear.  He has a simple, compact motion that allows him to repeat easily.  He didn’t show much of an offspeed pitch, but moved his fastball in and out, and elevated it for effect.

10.9.16 - Uncommitted IF/RHP Thomas Keehn (Dematha Catholic, MD) had Richmond Braves National 2019’s sole hit on the day, and also hopped on the mound for two innings, striking out four, and showcasing a quick arm that produced an 85-87 fastball. The ball jumps out of his hand from a high-3/4 release after a short arm stroke.

10.6.16 - The No. 2 ranked player in Maryland rankings, Keehn looks to be progressing nicely since our last view of him last spring. He is beginning to fill out his frame (6-foot, 180-pounds)  and should continue to add strength. Keehn was 84-86 on the day throwing from a high 3/4 arm slot with slight effort but not too much.  Has a clean loose arm action and does get some backside involvement. Could be better with glove side and potentially little better with hip but overall very interesting and projectable athlete on the mound with more in the tank.

3.23.16 - +2019 RHP/INF Thomas Keehn has a projectable athletic frame at 5-foot-11, 175-pounds. Has a sound arm action with arm speed. Pitched 82-85 in his outing with a 67-69 slider with short break and 10/4 shape. Fastball has arm side run on the pitch. Change up has nice fastball arm speed at 72-74 mph with arm side run and dive on the pitch. Has some lower half work to do to get legs and hips more involved, but lots of reason to like the young talent.  Does show potential as two way.
