MoCo Fall Review: Catcher Analysis

Close to 50 prospects from around the Old Line State in the 2020 - 2024 graduating classes participated at this year's MoCo Fall Review at Damascus High School. Players showcased their skills in a pro-style workout, batting practice, and bullpens in front of the PBR scouting staff. Below are evaluations on the four catchers. Be sure to check back next week as we wrap up this year's MoCo Fall Review with a look at the 20 pitchers that threw a bullpen.
THE Catchers
Mason Eberle C / Damascus , MD / 2021Athletic body type and 5’10’’, 150 pound frame with room to fill it out. Hits from a balanced, athletic, slightly open stance at the plate. Medium sized leg kick load with nice hand separation. Stays short to the ball with a slightly uphill swing path. Stays behind the ball well with strong lower half involvement and showed quick bat speed through the hitting zone. Excellent extension through contact and finishes swing hard with one hand. Gap-to-gap type hitter with some pop. Recorded a 74 mph exit velocity. Showed quick footwork and exchanges on throws to second. Gains ground and throws with short arm action from a three-quarter slot at 68 mph. Pop times ranged 2.00 - 2.19. Ran a 7.59 60-yard time. |
Oliver Martin C / RHP / Clarksburg, MD / 2023Athletic body type and projectable 6’0’’, 160 pound frame. Hits from a balanced, slightly crouched, and slightly open stance at the plate. Small leg kick load and creates good hand separation. Short and direct to the ball with a more level swing path. Has a tendency to get longer at times. Creates quick bat speed through the zone and showed some lower half involvement. Gets good extension past contact and finishes swing strong with two hands. Stays behind the ball well and does a nice job of keeping balance throughout the swing. Gap-to-gap type hitter and showed power to the pull side. Replaces feet quick on throws behind the plate and showed a quick exchange. Throws with short arm action from a high three-quarter slot at 68 mph. Pop times ranged 1.99 - 2.03. Ran a 7.01 60-yard time. |
Nicholas Torres C / 1B / Damascus, MD / 2024Big, solid body type and 5’7’’, 215 pound frame. Hits from a slightly wide, balanced, square stance at the plate. Smooth back load and short stride. Direct, slightly uphill swing path and showed some lower half involvement at times. Keeps head behind the ball and gets good extension past contact. Worked gap-to-gap with some pop. Recorded a 78 mph exit velocity. Replaces feet quick on throws to second from behind the plate and throws with short arm action from a three-quarters slot at 56 mph. Ran a 9.81 60-yard time. |
Zachary Torres 3B / C / Damascus, MD / 2022Big, solid body type and 5’8’’, 198 pound frame. Hits from a wider, balanced, square stance at the plate. Rhythmic load and short stride. Short, direct, level swing with some lower half involvement. Stays on the ball well through contact and gets good extension through contact. Worked gap-to-gap and showed a line drive swing with occasional pop. Recorded a 71 mph exit velocity. Replaces feet and gains some ground on throws to second. Bit of a longer exchange throwing with short arm action from a mid three-quarter slot at 62 mph. Works through the ball at third fielding it out in front and funneling to chest. Throws with short arm action from a three-quarters slot at 61 mph. Ran a 9.20 60-yard time. |
