Maryland in the PBR 2017 Overall Rankings

The PBR overall 2017 rankings came out at the end of August. Our area of coverage has continued to expand with the additions of New Jersey and all of the New England states, putting the PBR network at 27 states. It is important to note that the PBR overall rankings only reflect the states that we intimately know from out boots-on-the-ground scouting staff. It is also important to note that a player???s representative state coincides with the location of their high school.

Maryland had a great showing in the Top 300 overall rankings with seven players originally making the cut. After the announcement of Brandon Dorsey transferring to IMG Academy in Florida, that number moved to six.

Jeremy Arocho (No. 35) was the highest ranked player for the state of Maryland after an impressive spring and summer with Old Mill HS and the Evoshield Canes. Arocho is a switch-hitting talent with a smooth and sound glove at the shortstop position.

Four of the six players in the rankings made the top 112 and all are committed to the University of Maryland. Those players include Arocho, Randy Bednar (Landon School, No. 87), Grant Burleson (Parkside HS, No. 102), and Kieran Garner (pictured, River Hill HS, No. 112).

Bednar has been committed since last year, and with good reason. The legitimate two-way talent projects most as a position player with his 6.7 speed in the outfield and quick bat with power potential from the right side. Don???t count him out on the mound as Bednar has shown an athletic delivery and raw ability with a fastball that was recorded up to 87mph this past spring.

After a strong summer, the 2016 high school season looks to be a breakout year for LHP Burleson. The Salisbury, MD native pitched in limited innings for a deep pitching staff at Parkside in 2015 and is a key member of another talented Rams roster this season.

Garner is one of the more intriguing arms of the 2017 class. He holds a durable frame (6-foot-2, 195-pounds) and shows off excellent arm speed. This summer Garner pitched for Laurel, Post 60 in legion and helped the team make it to the state tournament. He has been up to 89 for PBR Maryland already and reportedly has hit 91 a few times over the course of the summer.

Brendan Collins of Sherwood HS came in at No. 174 in the rankings and is currently the top uncommitted player in the state and will be in attendance this November at the Fall Underclass Invitational. The right-handed pitcher is another durable framed (6-foot-3, 215-pounds) arm and pitched in the upper 80???s this summer.

Joey Haass of Polytech HS is the final player to make the rankings from the PBR Maryland network and the first in the 2017 class from the state of DE to make the rankings. The right handed pitcher made his mark this summer at the Top Prospect Games in June and then represented team Virginia/Maryland at the PBR Future Games.  Haass pitches 83-86 and has touched 87 with a quick arm action and looks to have more growing to do and more in the tank.  

Some notable prospects that just missed the overall rankings this time and could potentially make the next installment include INF/OF Eric Lansinger (Damascus), RHP Emir Garrett (Appoquinimink, DE), 3B Abe Mow (Milford, DE), and RHP Miguel Rivera (Polytech, DE).

RECENT HEADLINES
