Scouting Report

2/16/19

MD Preseason All State

Projectable athletic frame at 6-foot, 165-pounds. Ran a quick 4.03 Home-1st. Athletic setup from the left side with a small stride landing slightly closed. Hands are quick and show strength through contact. Bat path is slightly uphill, stays on the ball through extension, and has explosion in the lower half. Maintains balance throughout the swing and displayed big time pop and present pull side power. Exit velocity was 98 mph. Active on approach with solid glove presentation and uses a higher crow hop with a clean exchange. Arm action was clean with some arm speed and throws from a high three-quarter arm slot at 88 mph. Is an elite prospect with some projection still left to the body and will be exciting to watch him continue to grow.  Small rocker step from the delivery with a high balance point gathered over the rubber. Delivery has some pace and intent with shoulders slightly uphill and lands closed at foot strike. Displayed arm speed throwing from a three-quarter arm slot with a recoil at finish. Fastball had life and came out of the hand easy at 81-82 mph and topped at 83. Curveball sat at 65-68 with average arm speed and 11/5 shaped. Changeup showed fastball arm speed and intent sitting at 74-78 mph and was downhill. Martin has a live arm and looks to have more in the tank as he continues to grow and add strength.

Athletic 5-foot-10, 155 pound frame. Hits from a balanced, slightly open stance at the plate. Smooth back load and short stride. Creates nice separation. Short, compact uphill swing path and gets good extension through contact. Stays behind the ball well and shows good balance throughout swing. Led off game one for the Red Sox with a laser to RF and scored the game’s only run. Gap-to-gap type hitter with some pop. Uses the whole field well.

Freshman Free Showcase

Athletic frame at 5-foot-11, 155-pounds. Offensively  hits from a slightly open set up with high hands above should and nice rhythm in stance. Small leg kick load with knee turn in. Nice balance and repeat ability at the plate. Level path that can get long at times, but shows fast bat speed through the zone and extension through contact. Pull side power potential. ---- On the mound has a controlled delivery with higher leg kick into hip load. Slight pause at lift height. Longer loose arm actions throwing from a high three quarter slot. Creates fast arm speed through release. Nice lower half involvement. Maybe could get more hip involvement over front side. Fastball has slight run to the pitch at 80 mph. Breaking ball has 11/5 shape with gradual break at 58 mph. Change up has fade to the pitch at 60 mph. Throws knuckle as well at 57 mph. A top Performer at the event, one to keep an eye on in the 2021 class.
