This week we take one final look at the the roster from our Future Games Trials at the University of Maryland. We continue today with a full analysis of the catchers.
THE CATCHERS IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER
Jonah Baney C / RHP / Lansdowne, MD / 2020Athletic, lanky body type and 5-foot-9, 145 pound frame. Hits from a balanced, athletic, square stance and wide base. Smooth back load and good rhythm. Stays inside the ball well and showed some lower half involvement and bat speed. Short, level swing path with an exit velo of 76 mph. Line drive type hitter. Quiet body behind the plate and stick pitches well. Stays low in exchange, squares shoulders, and gains ground on throws. Short arm action throwing from a low three-quarter slot at 76 mph. Quick, clean exchanges with pop times ranging 1.97 - 2.14. Ran a 4.64 home-to-first time. |
Tyler Blittersdorf C / OF / John Carroll, MD / 2019Solid body type and 5-foot-10, 195 pound frame. Hits from a balanced, athletic stance at the plate. Short, smooth, rock-back load and high leg kick for rhythm and timing. Explosive lower half and stays behind the ball well. Quick hands and fast bat speed. Compact, short, slightly uphill swing path with good extension past contact. Gap-to-gap type hitter with present pull-side power. Took two impressive rounds of BP. Quiet body behind the plate and sticks it. Replaces feet well and showed quick, clean exchanges. Throws with short arm action from a high three-quarter slot at 74 mph. Put five throws on the money at second base with pop times ranging from 2.00 - 2.13. |
Mason Burke 2B / C / Loyola Blakefield, MD / 2021Athletic body type and 5-foot-8, 140 pound frame. Hits from a balanced, open stance at the plate with weight on back side. Starts swing with a small leg kick and short smooth back load for rhythm. Gets nice hand separation and generates some lower half involvement. Also showed some bat speed and a short slightly uphill swing path. Exit velo was 80 mph. Line drive type hitter with some pop to the gaps. Narrow, low set-up behind the plate. Gains ground on throws and showed quick, clean exchanges. Put four throws in the air on the money to second base with pop times ranging from 2.06 - 2.23. Throws with short arm action from a high three-quarter slot at 72 mph. |
Charles Hafer III OF / C / John Carroll , MD / 2020Solid 6-foot-1, 200 pound frame with a strong lower half. Hits from a balanced, athletic, slightly closed stance at the plate. Short, smooth rock-back load and explosive lower half movements. Quick hands and fast bat speed. Slightly uphill swing path with an exit velo of 91 mph. Attacks the ball at the plate and stays behind it well. Gap-to-gap type hitter with some power present. Big target behind the plate and sways body to receive. Sticks pitches well. Throws across body with short arm action from a low three-quarter slot at 71 mph. Pops ranged 2.18 - 2.22 on the day. |
Christopher Hagan C / 2B / Gerstell Academy, MD / 2020Solid, athletic body type and 5-foot-8, 200 pound frame. Hits from a taller slightly open stance. High leg kick and short, smooth back load for rhythm and timing. Creates nice hand separation and swings the bat with intent. Explosive lower half, quick hands, and fast bat speed evident. Short uphill swing path with an exit exit velo of 83 mph. Gap-to-gap type hitter with some power present. Big target behind the plate. Quiet body receiving and sticks it well. Quick footwork and clean exchanges. Short arm action throwing from a high three-quarter slot at 72 mph. Pop times ranged 2.07 - 2.21 on the day. |
Miles Peterson C / OF / Bishop McNamara, MD / 2021Long, lanky, athletic body type and 5-foot-11, 155 pound frame. Hits from an open, slightly crouched position at the plate. Really nice lower half involvement, quick hands and fast bat speed. Creates an arm bar at times. Short, level swing path with an exit velo of 76 mph. Line drive type hitter with occasional pop. Athletic behind the plate and showed quick footwork. Gains ground on throws with a short arm action and low three-quarter slot. Velo was 70 mph and pop times ranged 2.12 - 2.26. |
Jordan Reiswig C / OF / Bel Air, MD / 2022Long, lanky, athletic body type and projectable 6-foot-2, 175 pound frame. Hits from a balanced, athletic, square stance with minimal movement. Smooth back load with an average stride. Creates good hands separation. Explosive lower half, quick hands, and fast bat speed. Attacks the ball with a short level swing path. Exit velo was up to 79 mph. Sways body behind the plate to receive and sticks it well. Throws with short arm action from a low three-quarter slot at 71 mph. Quick feet but has a tendency to be off balance on throws. Would like to see him square shoulders to second more. Pop times ranged 2.09 - 2.22. |
