As November comes to a close we take one final look at the roster from our final event of the year: the Maryland Fall Invitational at Mount St. Mary's University. We continue today with a full analysis of the infielders from the event.
MARYLAND FALL INVITATIONAL CORNER INFIELDERS (LISTED ALPHABETICALLY)
James Hawkins 3B Chesapeake-AA 2020
Solid, athletic body type and 6-foot, 185 pound frame. Hits from a balanced, athletic, slightly crouched stance at the plate. Minimal load and short stride creating some separation. Takes hands to the ball with a short, slightly uphill swing path. Generates some lower half involvement and bat speed with good extension through contact. Sprayed the ball around the field during BP with a nice gap-to-gap approach. Exit velo was up to 85 mph. Plays with active feet at third base and works through the ball. Throws with longer arm action from a high three-quarters slot at 81 mph across the diamond. Moves well, showed range, and the ability to make throws from various arm slots.
Sam Marth 1B/3B Linganore 2019
Solid body type and 5-foot-11, 180 pound frame. Hits from a balanced, athletic, square stance at the plate. Medium sized leg kick load and average stride length. Short, level swing path with quick bat speed. Showed some lower half involvement in swing with good extension through contact. Stays behind the ball well and recorded a 76 mph exit velo. Gap-to-gap line drive type hitter with some pop. Sets up to the ball with a solid base and plays with fundamental footwork around the bag. Throws with long arm action from a high three-quarters slot at 76 mph. Funnels ball to chest and showed quick, clean exchanges on double play feeds to second base. Ran a 7.06 60-yard dash.
Dylan Miller OF/1B Linganore 2019
Athletic body type and 5-foot-8, 135 pound frame. Hits from the left side in a balanced, athletic, slightly open stance. Shorter back load and small stride. Creates some separation and showed some lower half involvement and bat speed. Short, slightly uphill swing path with an exit velo of 67 mph. Gap-to-gap line drive type hitter. Stays behind the ball well with good balance. Athletic and works through the ball at first base with fundamental footwork and a strong base. Throws with shorter arm action from a high three-quarters arm slot at 66 mph.
Garrett Osborne RHP/1B Urbana 2021
Solid body type and 6-foot-2, 225 pound frame. Hits from a balanced, square stance at the plate with front foot slightly open. Sinks into a slightly crouched, compact load position. Minimal stride and lower half involvement. Stays behind the ball with good extension through contact. Short, uphill swing path with some bat speed. Exit velo was up to 82 mph. Gap-to-gap line drive type hitter and more power projected with more lower half involvement in swing. Plays through the ball at third base with clean exchanges. Throws from the side at 65 mph across the diamond.
Colin Parry 1B Towson 2021
Athletic body type and 5-foot-8, 140 pound frame. Hits from a balanced, athletic, square stance at the plate with front knee slightly inverted. Short back load and average stride length. Slightly longer, level swing path with an exit velo of 68 mph. Stays behind the ball and gets good extension through contact. Line drive type hitter. Would like to see more lower half involvement. Athletic set-up at first base and quick, clean exchanges. Throws with short arm action from a mid three-quarters arm slot at 62 mph.
Jack Patterson OF/1B Northwest 2021
Athletic body type and 5-foot-4, 115 pound frame. Hits from the left side in a balanced, athletic, open stance. Small leg kick load creating some separation. Short, level swing path with an exit velo of 65 mph. Stays on and behind the ball well with excellent balance. Showed some lower half involvement. Line drive type hitter. Works through the ball at first base funneling to chest. Showed athleticism and clean exchanges on double play feeds to second base. Throws with short arm action from a high three-quarters slot at 62 mph.
Nathan Stein LHP/OF/1B Mt. Airy Christian 2020
Athletic, lanky body type and 6-foot, 155 pound frame. Hits from a tall, balanced, slightly closed stance. Quick toe-tap load creating some separation. Excellent balance and average lower half involvement. Long, level swing path and good extension through contact. Stays on the ball well form the left side. Gap-to-gap line drive type hitter with an exit velo of 76 mph. Athletic and plays through the ball at first base with clean exchanges. Throws with long arm action from a high three-quarters slot at 74 mph. Ran a 7.33 60-yard dash.
Jake Turner 1B/3B Oakdale 2020
Athletic body type, strong lower half and a 5-foot-9, 180 pound frame. Hits from a tall, slightly open stance with feet close together. Sinks into lower half with a long stride. Short, uphill swing path with quick bat speed and average lower half involvement. Stays behind the ball with nice extension through contact. Exit velo was up to 86 mph. Littered two rounds of BP with line drives working gap-to-gap. Showed some pop and a really nice opposite field, right-center approach. Works through the ball at first base with fundamental footwork. Throws with long arm action from a lower three-quarters slot. Ran a 7.46 60-yard dash.
Ben Wieman 3B Archbishop Spalding 2021
Athletic body type and projectable 6-foot-2, 175 pound frame. Hits from a tall, slightly open stance at the plate. Minimal load starting with hands pre-set and takes a small stride creating some separation. Short, compact, slightly uphill swing path with quick bat speed. Showed good balance and stays behind the ball well with some lower half involvement in swing. Nice extension through contact with an exit velo up to 85 mph. Took two really nice rounds of BP. Gap-to-gap line drive type hitter now with some pop in the bat. Moves well and works through the ball at third base. Funnels ball to chest with soft hands and showed clean exchanges. Throws with longer arm action from a high three-quarters slot at 80 mph.
MARYLAND FALL INVITATIONAL MIDDLE INFIELDERS (LISTED ALPHABETICALLY)
Ryan Barthlow SS/3B Linganore 2020
Athletic body type and 6-foot, 180 pound frame with room to grow. Hits from an athletic, balanced, square stance at the plate. Smooth back load creating some separation. Short, slightly uphill swing path at times with some bat speed. Strong lower half involvement, good extension and gets upright through finish. Drove balls into the gaps and used the whole field well during both rounds of BP. Gap-to-gap type hitter with some pop and an exit velo of 78 mph. Plays with active feet and works through the ball at third base. Funnels ball to chest and showed soft hands. Throws with shorter arm action from a high three-quarters slot at 72 mph. Ran a 7.39 60-yard dash.
Stephen Brice SS Home School 2020
Athletic body type and 6-foot, 150 pound frame with room to fill out. Hits from a balanced, athletic, square stance at the plate. Short stride creating some separation. Short, level swing path with some lower half involvement and bat speed. Line drive type hitter with good extension through contact. Exit velo was up to 78 mph. Athletic and moves well in the infield. Works through the ball with soft hands and quick footwork. Throws with shorter arm action from a high three-quarters arm slot at 71 mph. Showed the ability to make accurate throws from other arm angles on the run depending on the play type.
Jake DiBuono 2B/SS South Carroll 2020
Athletic body type and 6-foot, 140 pound frame. Hits from a balanced, athletic, square stance at the plate with hands pre-set. Short, quick stride and short, level swing path. Line drive type hitter with and exit velo of 64 mph. Works through the ball in the infield with quick, clean exchanges. Throws with long arm action from a high three-quarters slot at 66 mph.
Bryce Quartucci OF/2B Urbana 2020
Athletic body type and 5-foot-8, 160 pound frame. Hits from a balanced, athletic, slightly open stance at the plate. Smaller, quick load with a short stride and nice separation. Longer, more compact level swing path. Showed some bat speed and strong lower half involvement. Line drive type hitter with an exit velo of 82 mph. Plays with active feet, sound actions, and moves well at shortstop. Surrounds the ball and works through funneling the ball to chest with soft hands. Throws with longer arm action from a mid three-quarters slot at 79 mph. Ran a 7.52 60-yard dash.
Garrett Schwartzbeck SS Linganore 2020
Long, athletic, lanky body type and 6-foot-1, 170 pound frame with room to fill out. Hits from a balanced, athletic, slightly open stance at the plate with front foot slightly inverted. Minimal load and longer stride length. Short, level swing path and quick bat speed. Generates some lower half involvement in swing and stays behind the ball well. Gap-to-gap line drive type hitter with an exit velo of 82 mph. Plays with active feet and works through the ball at shortstop with soft hands. Rangy, athletic, and moves very well. Throws with shorter arm action from a mid three-quarters slot at 76 mph. Showed the ability to make accurate throws on the run. Ran a 7.16 60-yard dash.
