The Maryland Notebook is an all-encompassing blurb about thoughts from the high school season, summer season, fall ball, etc.
The Western Maryland Prospect ID saw 30 players from the Western Maryland area showcase their talent on the beautiful campus of Frederick Community College. Here are some initial thoughts from the event.
+ St. James had some strong rising seniors Ryan Brown, Colton Repp, and Ethan Spicher all having nice workouts, but what impressed the most was the Saints younger talent that came out to Frederick. 2017 Jared Carr, 2019 Chris Chaney, and 2019 Spencer McNamee all had nice workouts and are some names to keep an eye on.
+ Max Rogers had the most impressive showing at the Prospect ID, showing off an 87 mph arm from the outfield, and a 91 mph exit velocity, both event bests.
+ Calvert Halls Phil LoMedico and Garrett Matheny both had nice workouts. Matheny had a nice work out from behind the plate with catch-and-throw ability and a foundation to build off of offensively. LoMedico showed pop in his bat getting up to 89 mph in his exit velocity.
+ 2017 Jack Stines showed plenty of raw athletic ability that impressed. 6.8 speed, 80 mph from the outfield, and 91 mph exit velocity. Intriguing prospect.
+ Boonsboro’s 2016 Blake Dougherty, 2017 Matthew Harsh, and 2016 Devin Griffith all showed ability and are interesting prospects. Dougherty ran a 6.83 with an 81 mph outfield velocity. Solid frame at 6-foot-2 180-pounds and a lot of raw to him. Griffith showed a clean glove with a fluid exchange and 81 mph exit velo. Arm speed was something that Harsh showed with sharp break on his breaking ball and command and near fastball arm speed on a knuckleball.
+ Sam Steinberg improved in every statistical category at the Prospect ID after also attending the Maryland Preseason ID in February. He lowered his 60 time almost two-tenths, and increased his velocity in each category (OF/INF velo, exit velo).
+ 2017 class was well represented with the aforementioned Carr, Harsh, Matheny, and Stines all having nice workouts. Other 2017’s of note were Kaleb Cline, Kristian Curry Jr, Jacob House, Ryan Mills, and Ryan Washabaugh.
