The Maryland Insider covers a wide variety of information on players in the state. We will cover events, players to watch, rankings, best in class, and many more topics that will cover the many levels of high school baseball.
The Prep Baseball Report has now finished updating all of the class rankings to include all of the newest states in the ever growing network that PBR covers. Maryland made quite an impression in each class and let’s take a look at all of the players from the state of Maryland to make the overall rankings.
2015 class
Cody Morris RHP Reservoir
Morris has earned himself the highest ranking in the state and is the top draft prospect coming out of high school in Maryland. The South Carolina commit has been pitching consistently in the low 90’s and has been a player many area scouts have been paying plenty of attention to for the draft.
Hunter Parsons RHP Parkside
Parsons has had a nice spring sitting in the low 90’s with his fastball and has shown good life on a breaking ball and feel for his change. The Maryland commit is another potential draft pick from the state.
2016 class
Matt Mervis 1B/3B Georgetown Prep
Mervis is a physical specimen that hits from the left side with gap-to-gap ability and power potential. The Duke commit continues to impress with his quick bat and athleticism and will be a prospect to watch for the 2016 draft.
Anthony Felitti LHP Gaithersburg
Felitti has been making his mark this season with a strong high school campaign on the mound for Gaithersburg. The UVA commit has shown good pitch ability and will be an interesting prospect in the 2016 draft.
Elliot Zoellner RHP St. Mary’s
Zoellner had a very strong performance at the Maryland Preseason ID showing a nice and fluid delivery and fast arm speed with not much effort. The uncommitted righty has been quiet during the high school season not having pitched in a while.
Nick Pantos RHP Gaithersburg
The other half of the Gaithersburg one-two punch has been solid again for the Trojans. The Maryland commit has been pitching nicely and in an outing early this season sat just under 90 mph with a good breaking ball.
Tyler Blohm LHP Archbishop Spalding
The left-hander has had a solid campaign this season for the cavaliers. Blohm is an interesting prospect with a great frame.
Michael Richardson SS Cambridge South Dorchester
Richardson jumped on the board after an impressive showing at the Maryland Preseason ID. The uncommitted infielder looks like a name that is starting to heat up in the region.
Nathaniel Lowe OF Cambridge South Dorchester
Another player that left a mark at the Maryland Preaseason ID, Lowe showed good overall athleticism and some pop with an 88 mph exit velocity. Combine that with his good overall speed and you get a prospect to watch out for.
Brandon Martin RHP Westminster
Martin has been up and down in his first year as staff ace on Westminster. Going into the second half of the season the Fordham commit has looked to get into a good rhythm and is starting pitch some of his best baseball.
Jaret Bennett LHP Col. Richardson
Bennett made a splash at the Maryland Preseason ID showing an athletic delivery and good off speed potential. He has only built upon that this season pitching for the undefeated Col. Richardson squad. Potential to be a power arm type from the left side, Bennett has been getting plenty of interest as of late.
Dalton Stewart SS Boonsboro
Stewart is a Penn State commit that has been having a nice season this year for Boonsboro. Good athlete that is continuing to get stronger.
2017 class
Brandon Dorsey 3B Calvert Hall
The UNC commit has been off to a nice start this season before having to take some rest with a sore arm. His play has shown why he was the first Maryland player to make the 2017 rankings.
Kieran Garner RHP River Hill
Garner has been picking it up as of late on the mound for River Hill. Coming off of a 13 strikeout performance and is showing what made him such an interesting 2017 prospect after a winter that really put him on the stage.
Grant Burleson LHP Parkside
Burleson might have made the biggest splash this winter coming from almost out of nowhere to becoming one of the top 2017’s in the state. The athletic LHP has been getting some major interest after an impressive showing at the Maryland Preseason ID in which he was pitching at 85-86 mph with a higher ceiling. The hardest part has been trying to get him on the mound for a loaded Parkside team featuring two Division I arms and two other college commits on staff.
Randy Bednar OF/LHP Landon
Bednar is a very athletic dual talent that is still a bit undecided which way he may go. Committed to Maryland, Bednar has shown good presence at the plate with 6.7 speed and a mid-80’s fastball.
2018 Class
Austin Elliott RHP/OF Cape Henlopen (DE)
Elliot made his presence be know when attending the Maryland Preseason ID and looks to be a prospect to keep an eye on. Showing a fastball at 84 mph and a good frame to build upon, Elliott was the only member of the our region to make the top 50 in the 2018 class.
