With Mother Nature throwing plenty of wrenches into the Maryland High School baseball season up to this point, games have been sporadic at best.  However, there have been plenty of teams that have been able to overcome the elements and get games in.  Let’s take a look at those programs and how they have been able to perform (in alphabetical order).

HS Scoreboard: Games Through March 22

Annapolis (1-2)
The Panthers are off to 1-2 start on the year, beating Crossland 17-0 and losing two tough games against Great Mills (4-2) and Chopticon (7-1) Aidan Fowler is on a hot start, hitting .800 (4-5) in two games played. 

Annapolis Area Christian (1-0)
The Eagles are on a 1-0 start to the year beating Perry Hall by a count of 8-2.  Kasey Gast had a solid start in his first game of the year pitching four and two-thirds innings with six strikeouts.

Archbishop Curley (0-2)
The Friars have started 0-2 against two tough opponents in Riverdale Baptist and St. John’s (DC), losing both by a count of 7-2. Marti Costes hit his first homerun of the early season and Jordan Menfee had a good start in his first outing of the year. 

Archbishop Spalding (4-0)
The Cavaliers are off to a hot start at 4-0 and doing so against some tough competition.  Spalding beat public school power Reservoir 3-1 in extra innings, no hit Good Counsel, and won another late inning game against Georgetown Prep. Pitching has been key to the hot start as the Cavs’ staff have given up one earned run in the young season.  Ezio Rebechi leads the team in hitting at .600 in his four games played. 

Bethesda-Chevy Chase (1-0)
The Barons are 1-0 to begin the year with a victory over Magruder by a count of 9-4. Spencer Hacker and Alex Zherka each had two hits apiece in the victory.

Bishop McNamara (0-4)
The Mustangs are off to an 0-4 start and playing some tough competition to begin the year.  Chase Ragsdale is off to a nice start for the team hitting .357 with a homerun. 

Bullis (1-0)
The Bulldogs are 1-0 to begin the season after throwing a combined no-hitter against Model Secondary School.  Bullis begins a trip at the ESPN wild world of sports complex today against teams from around the country throughout this week.

Calvert Hall (2-0)
The Cardinals are off to a 2-0 start to the 2015 season taking down WCAC powerhouse St. John’s (DC) by a score of 1-0 and beating Hereford 8-0.  Nick Delp held St. John’s to one hit in five strong and efficient innings while helping himself out by knocking in the only run of the day by either team.  A week later against Hereford, Delp went six strong with eight strikeouts in the victory versus Hereford.

Calvert (1-1)
The Cavaliers are off to a 1-1 start to the season, both games of the one run variety.  They beat Northern 6-5 in extra innings and lost in 10 innings to Patuxent 2-1. Leadoff hitter Dakota Greening is off to a nice start in the two games hitting .400 (4-10).

Chopticon (2-0)
Braves are on a good 2-0 start with wins over Great Mills and Annapolis.  Uncommitted 2015 Ljay Newsome paced the pitching for Chopticon with 14 strikeouts in the win over Great Mills. 

DeMatha (1-2)
The Stags are off to a 1-2 start beating Paul VI (VA) and losing two tough games versus St. Mary’s Ryken and Georgetown Prep. Andrew Keith is off to a good start for DeMatha hitting .400 in his three games played.

Dulaney (0-1)
The lions are 0-1 after losing to Mount St. Joe’s by a score of 13-2.  Jake Sousa had a hit and an RBI in the effort.

Easton (0-1)
Warriors are off to a 0-1 start losing to Parkside by a count of 6-4. Easton got a combined nice effort from the pitching staff, but need to work on throwing more strikes and playing solid defense with seven walks and four errors on the defensive end.

Grace Academy (0-1)
The Kinghts are off to a 0-1 start after losing their opening tilt with South Hagerstown. Ryonosike Yamamoto has led the team with two hits in two plate appearances to start the year.

Huntingtown (2-0)
The Hurricanes are off to a 2-0 start after beating North Point and Long Reach early.  Bradyn Vogtsberger pitched a strong four innings agains Long Reach giving up on one hit while striking out 6. Cameron Sydnor led the Hurricane offense against North Point knocking in five runs.  Tim Hand had a strong four inning effort giving up no hits and striking out five.

Laurel (0-1)
The Spartans dropped their opening game to Blair by a count of 7-0.  James Leishear had the lone hit.  

Leonardtown (1-0)
The raiders have started the season 1-0 after defeating Bowie by a score of 9-5. Bowen Plagge paced the offense going two-for-four with three RBI in the victory.

Loyola Blakefield (3-2-1)
The Dons are off to a 3-2-1 start after making a trip down to Florida early to get some games in.  Patrick McCoy (.444), Andrew Fava (.375), Jack Sheehan (.364), and Chris Girken (.353) are pacing the team offensively. Girken and Alec Schenning lead the pitching staff with Conor Barnes making one start and also getting a save for the team.

McDonogh (4-0)
The Eagles are off a strong start at 4-0 on the season. Those wins have come against the likes of North Hills, Mountain View, Calvery Baptist and Western Reserve. Jay Felts has played a key role in the McDonogh start, hitting .500 in the four games played.

Mount St. Joseph
The Gaels are off to a strong 5-1 start to begin their 2015 campaign.  They had started off winning five in a row against North County, Dulaney, Absegami, South Fayette, and Canon McMillan.  Their recent loss was at the hands of Allentown. Towson commit Clark Clatchey is off to a nice start hitting just under .500 (7-15) in his five starts.

Other Schools of Note:

Northern: 1-0 (defeated Atholton 4-2)

Park School Bruins: 1-1 (12-2 W over Good Counsel, 6-13 L v Annapolis Area Christian)

Parkside:  2-0 (Swept a DH over Washington outscoring them 28-2)

River Hill: 2-0 (outscored their two opponents 34-14 in two games)

South River: 0-1 (loss to Arundel 3-4)

St. John’s Catholic: 0-1 (loss to The Heights 0-10)

St. Mary’s Ryken: 1-2 (defeated DeMatha 8-2, loss to St. John’s (DC) 0-4, loss to Bishop O’Connel 1-2)

St. Mary’s: 2-0 (Defeated Wilson and Goretti by combined score of 27-4)

Parkville: 1-0 (7-1 W over Lansdowne)

Westminster: 2-0 (Wins over FSK and Mount Hebron (7-4, 6-2)
