The Eastern Shore Showcase took place on July 26th, 2016. Over 20 prospects from around Maryland and around the region took part in the event in front of the PBR Maryland staff and colleges. Today we break down the 2018, 2019, and 2020 grads from the event.
Jacob Booze RHP/OF James M. Bennett 2018
Athletic frame at 6-foot, 155-pounds. Has shown nice increase of ability in the time since we last saw him. Hits from an athletic set up at the plate. Quick load to hitting position. Has a shorter level swing path and keeps on plane well. Showing strength with his 85 mph exit velocity. Shows some extension through contact and gap-to-gap ability. Active feet in the outfield. Clean exchange and a shorter, loose arm action throwing from a high ¾ arm slot. Throws have some carry on them at 75 mph…Controlled side step delivery with nice tempo. Shorter arm action throwing from an almost over the top arm slot. Gets some lower half usage with a regular effort delivery. Shows some arm speed through release. Fastball has slight run and sink to the pitch up to 79 mph. Breaking ball has 12/6 action with nice rotation and gradual break with harder break at times at 66 mph. Splitter has sink to the pitch at 67 mph.
Hiram Davis RHP/SS Dover (DE) 2019
Projectable frame with room for growth at 5-foot-9, 145-pounds. Hits from an athletic set up. Has a short swing with quick hands.. Not much wasted movement in swing with a simple load. Shows rhythm throughout and nice balance. Solid foundation at the plate. Sound actions in the infield Clean hands and exchange throwing from a ¾ arm slot. Smooth actions. Throws across the infield were at 75 mph. Had an exit velocity of 72 mph and ran a 6.83 60-yard dash…Has a lower build up type delivery. A bit of a drop-and-drive style after leg lift. Longer clean arm action and generate quick arm speed throughout. Lands square to the plate and has some lower half involvement. Fastball has slight sink on the pitch up to 82 mph. Breaking ball has shorter action with gradual break and 10/4 shape. Change has nice fade and sink on the pitch with near fastball arm speed. Showed nice command of the zone during the workout. Very interesting 2019 and one to keep an eye on.
Haydon Gunther SS Queen Anne's 2018
Athletic frame at 5-foot-11, 190-pounds. Hits from a balanced set up. Short load, shorter swing with ability to elevate and drive baseball. Has average bat speed and has nice balance throughout swing with some rhythm. Could get some more lower half involvement. Sound actions in the infield. Sound exchange with a short arm action throwing from a ¾ arm slot. Outfield velocity of 78 mph and infield velo of 75. Ran a 7.7 60-yard dash and had an exit velocity of 81 mph.
Cole Hitch C Indian River 2018
Solid frame at 5-foot-9, 195-pounds. Hits from a balanced set up. Smooth load back with double tap. Level swing path with some bat speed. Gets around the ball at times, but shows extension through contact. Quick hands and exchange behind the plate. Throws were accurate to the bag. Needs to continue to quicken his footwork to lower pop times. Receives well. Soft hands, and did nice job on low ball with quiet movement. Continued work side to side will only get better.
Trey Howard OF Dover (DE) 2018
Solid compact frame at 5-foot-7, 180-pounds. Hits from an athletic set up. Smooth load with long leg kick. Short direct path to the ball. Nice balance at the plate and lands slightly closed which cuts off hips so could get some more pop and extension through contact. Active feet in the infield. Soft hands clean exchange and quick release. Active feet in outfield. Clean exchange throwing from a high ¾ slot with a longer arm action. Outfield velo of 75 and exit velocity of 84 mph.
Brady Parks LHP Sussex Tech(DE) 2018
Athletic frame at 6-foot, 185-pounds. Build up delivery with shorter athletic arm action. Throws from a high ¾ arm slot and creates quick arm speed. Could get more of his lower half in delivery. Lands square to the plate with some effort and finishes slightly to third base side. Fastball has nice sink and run to the pitch at 82 mph. Breaking ball has harder 1/7 action on the pitch and potential as a put away pitch. Change up has run on the pitch with fastball arm speed at 74 mph.
Zach Savage C Cape Henlopen (DE) 2018
Athletic projectable frame at 5-foot-11, 155-pounds. Hits from a taller set up. Quick smooth load with a level swing path and quick hands. Smooth swing with extension through contact. Nice balance and rhythm throughout. Active feet in the infield, soft hands and clean exchange. Throwing with short arm action from a high ¾ arm slot and throws ar 78 mph. Clean wuick exchange behind the plate with nice footwork. Throws were accurate to second at 70 mph. Receives well with soft hands. Sticks ball well and shows nice body control. Has shown much improvement and should only continue to get better.
Brett Swift 3B James M Bennett 2019
Strong frame at 6-foot-2, 205-pounds. Hits from a slightly open setup. Quick load to hitting position with some rhythm. Shorter swing path with some extension through contact. Compact swing and has some potential power. Nice balance throughout. Active feet in the infield. Needs to continue to work on footwork. Clean hands and exchange at third. Throws from a low ¾ slot at 77 mph. Exit velocity of 86 mph. Should continue to strengthen his frame and shows potential to turn into a power hitting prospect.
Dominic Velazquez RHP/C Dover HS 2020
Solid frame at 5-foot-9, 160-pounds. Controlled delivery with nice tempo. Longer free arm action throwing from a high ¾ slot. Lands square to the plate in athletic position. Not much lower half so should get more velo as gets better involvement. Fastball is straight up to 83 mph and has sink at times. Breaking ball has 12/6 action on the pitch with some depth and gets later action when out in front on the pitch. Changeup has slight sink on the pitch at 74 mph.
Brock Wingate 3B Indian River (DE) 2018
Solid frame at 5-foot-9, 185-pounds. Hits from a slightly closed, athletic setup. Shorter load with smooth leg kick to hitting position. Has a shorter swing path that gets in and out of the zone at times. Showed ability to get nice extension through contact on a few swing and stay on ball. Showed some balance and get lower half involved. Pull type hitter that shows some power potential with an 85 mph exit velocity. Sound actions in the infield. Clean hands and exchange with a shorter arm action throwing from an almost over the top arm slot.
