The Eastern Shore Showcase took place on July 26th, 2016. Over 20 prospects from around Maryland and around the region took part in the event in front of the PBR Maryland staff and colleges. Today we break down the 2017 grads from the event.
Richard Carey C Cape Henlopen (DE) 2017
Solid frame at 5-foot-8, 165-pounds. Hits from an athletic set up at the plate. Smooth load with a longer, level swing path. Generates some bat speed with a middle approach. Nice balance throughout, spins at times and could stay on ball longer. Nice footwork with a clean exchange behind the plate. Slightly open stance receiving. Shorter arm action throwing from an almost over the top arm slot. Nice hip control and sticks ball well. Pop time consistently in the 2.05 range on the day.
Wyatt Church SS Stephen Decatur 2017
Compact frame at 5-foot-7, 125-pounds. Hits from a balanced set up. Short simple swing with a direct path to the ball. Smooth swing and fluid. Gets slightly uphill at times. Shows average bat speed and barrels the ball well during BP. Active feet in the infield. Sound actions and fundamentals. Clean, crisp exchange with a shorter arm action throwing across the infield. Throws across were at 74 mph. Exit velocity of 82 mph. and ran a 6.99 60-yard dash.
Austin Gauthier SS South County (VA) 2017
Athletic frame at 5-foot-11, 170-pounds. Hits from an athletic set up. Smooth load to hitting position. Has a shorter swing with quick hands and nice extension through contact. Shows rhythm at the plate and generates quick bat speed. Nice balance throughout. Solid fundamentals in the infield. Sound footwork and clean hands with exchange. Shorter arm action throwing across the diamond with throws up to 80 mph. Exit velocity of 89 mph and ran a 6.88 60-yard dash.
Justin Gray C Seaford (DE) 2017
Strong frame at 6-foot-2, 225-pounds. Hits from a balanced set up. Strong hands at the plate. Level swing path with ability to elevate baseball to drive. Nice extension through contact. Get some lower half involvement and could get a bit more to improve upon already strong power potential. Slightly open set up at the plate. Clean receive to exchange. Short arm action when throwing down to second. Sticks ball well behind the plate. Has a catcher velo of 70 mph with a pop time that ranged from 2.20-2.30.
Robbie Houck SS Middletown (MD) 2017
Athletic frame at 6-foot, 170-pounds. Hits from an athletic set up with lower hands. Short quick load to hitting position. Quick hands with a level swing path with some extension through contact. Active feet in the infield. Soft hands and clean exchange to throwing position. Throws with loose arm action from a ¾ slot across the diamond. Good first step quickness with a 6.69 60-yard dash. Throws across the infield at 76 mph and exit velocity of 86 mph…Controlled deliberate delivery. Gathers to balance, longer loose arm action throwing from a high ¾ slot. Average arm speed and lands square to the plate with slight finished to first base side. Fastball has slight run to the pitch at 77 mph. Breaking ball has nice depth with 11/5 shape on the pitch. Throws it with near fastball arm speed. Change up has fade to the pitch at 66 mph.
Evan Nibblett RHP Seaford (DE) 2017
Athletic frame at 6-foot, 165-pounds. Controlled slower delivery. Free arm action throwing from a high ¾ slot. Lands square to the plate with slight finished to the first base side. Creates nice arm sped through release. Gets some lower half involved. Fastball has some sink to the pitch at 78 mph. Breaking ball shows a harder 11/5 almost 10/4 shape on the pitch at times. Change up has sink on the pitch at 70 mph.
Jack Sullivan 3B/RHP Middletown (MD) 2017
Athletic frame at 5-foot-11, 165-pounds. Hits from an athletic set up. Short load with leg kick. Short swing to the ball with some extension through contact. Stays inside ball well and creates some bat speed. Nice balance throughout and shows some power potential. Active feet in the infield, with quick, clean exchange throws from a ¾ slot with loose athletic arm action. 82 mph exit velocity and infield velocity of 80 mph…Controlled delivery, Longer free arm action throwing from a high ¾ slot. Lands square to the plate with finish to the first base side. Does get some lower half involved from back side. Fastball has some sink on the pitch at 81 mph. Breaking ball has 11/5 shape on the pitch with gradual break. Change up shows sink at 75 mph.
KCi Widdowson OF Seaford (DE) 2017
Solid frame at 5-foot-8, 155-pounds. Hits from a taller, slightly open set up. Has a level swing path with short load and arm bar. Lands slightly closed. Simple swing with direct level path. Gets around at times but uses the middle of the field well with swing. Nice rhythm throughout. Active feet in the outfield. Clean exchange throwing from a high ¾ arm slot. Throws have average carry on them at 71 mph. Exit velocity of 76 and ran a 7.00 60-yard dash.
