SCOUT NOTES
*Alphabetical Order
Mason Barrall OF/RHP Salisbury Christian 2024
Short, quick and compact swing. Top of the order type bat with some speed. Really enjoyed watching him at the plate all weekend. Advanced barrel awareness and does an outstanding job using the hands, adjusting the swing, using the whole field and hitting the ball where it’s pitched. Smaller frame currently but figures to grow and fill out much more down the road.
Nate Berzonski 3B/RHP Stephen Decatur 2025
A lot to like on both sides of the ball with Berzonski. Body shows some strength already developing in the projectable 6’0’’, 175 pound frame of his. Hits from a slightly open stance with a quiet and controlled toe-tap load. Stays behind the ball well with good extension and really does a nice job staying on the ball through contact. Slightly longer swing path with quality bat speed and whip through the zone. Also had a solid day on the mound on Sunday sitting 75-77 T78 with a 62 mph 12/6 breaker. Slower paced build-up throwing with a full arm-circle from an over the top slot.
Tim Bowlby 2B/OF Middletown (DE) 2022
Bowlby was a really exciting player to watch this past weekend at the Battlegrounds. Showed tremendous versatility to play multiple positions on the infield and all three outfield spots. Possess some speed to go along with his scrappy and ultra-competitive demeanor on the field. Battles at the plate and consistently put together quality AB’s. Athletic frame and hits from the right side from a slightly open stance. Quick, quiet load and short, compact swing. Does a nice job making adjustments with his hands and showed the ability to use the whole field. High energy - high IQ type player that makes a difference when on the field.
Jackson Dorsey SS/RHP Delaware Military Academy (DE) 2023
Really like what I saw from Dorsey at the Battlegrounds last weekend. 5’9’’, 140 pound leadoff type stick with a knack for putting the ball in play and making things happen. Consistently put together one quality AB after another. Solid middle of the field line drive approach. Doesn’t try to do too much; just finds a way to get the barrel on it and make hard contact. Stays short, quick and compact throughout the swing with great balance. Very excited to see what kind of roll he will play next year on the deafening State Championship; Delaware Military Academy, considering some of the holes they will be looking to plug.
Jack Ford SS/RHP Delmar (DE) 2022
Another player this past weekend that made consistent loud contact at the dish. Ford really does a nice job staying short and quick to the ball with nice barrel awareness. Hits from a square stance with hand rhythm prior to load. Short, controlled load with slight hand separation and showed some uphill tendencies in the swing path. Does a nice job with his hands to get inside the baseball and stays on the ball well through contact. Athletic 5’11’’, 170 pound frame with plenty of room to add strength and size.
Roman Keith OF/SS Indian River (DE) 2023
Really good look this past weekend at Roman Keith playing for the 2023 National Team at the Battlegrounds. One of the most consistent hitters at the plate all weekend. Put together multiple multi-hit games showing great barrel awareness and a high bat-to-ball contact ratio. Hits from a slightly open stance staying short and compact through the zone with quick hands and some bat speed. Excellent job remaining balanced, staying behind the ball using the whole field, and adjusting to the off-speed. Also showed some pop at the plate to the pull-side and possesses versatility to play multiple positions on the field defensively. Interested to see how he will come out of this off-season. Can see him playing a major role up at Indian River this coming Spring.
A.J. Kolb 2B/SS Stephen Decatur 2024
Came away impressed by Kolb as he too had an excellent weekend at the plate for the 2024 National Team. Collected multiple base-hits at this year’s Battlegrounds showcasing a short, quick, and compact stroke. Slightly open stance and quiet leg kick load. Maintains great balance throughout the swing and really showed quick hands and bat speed through the zone. High contact ratio with feel for the barrel and sneaky pop. Interested to see what role he may play this Spring on another loaded ball club down at Stephen Decatur.
Gino Meienschein 2B/RHP Parkside 2023
Projectable 5’11’’, 175 pound frame with some strength already showing in the body and at the plate. Really interesting bat to follow in the 2023 class. Squared up several balls last weekend for the 2023 American Team. Hits from a taller, slightly open stance at the plate with a toe-tap load and creates nice, easy, smooth separation. Stays behind the ball really well with lift in the swing through contact. Gets good extension through contact and showed the ability to really drive the ball hard to the pull-side.
Jaxson Monroney OF/1B Caesar Rodney (DE) 2023
Really enjoyed watching Monroney for the first time this past weekend at the Battlegrounds. Great weekend overall at the plate collecting several big knocks for the 2023 American squad. Hits from a balanced, relaxed, and open stance at the plate with some hand rhythm. Creates nice hand separation and showed quick hands and barrel speed through the zone with a more level swing path. Stays behind well and short to the ball with the ability to drive the ball to both gaps. 5’10’’, 160 pound frame with tons of room to fill out. Diamond in the rough with big upside up at Caesar Rodney HS.
Tyler Mosher OF/LHP St. Mark’s (DE) 2024
Mosher really caught my eye this past weekend at the Battlegrounds after several quality AB’s. Really like the swing and how he stays short and through the ball with a strong middle of the field line drive approach. Smaller 5’6’’, 145 pound frame but packs a punch at the plate and showed great barrel awareness throughout. Stays behind the ball very well with good extension through contact and some bat speed through the zone. Excited to see how he continues to grow and develop over the next few months. Interested to see what impact he may have this Spring up at yet another Delaware powerhouse in St. Mark’s.
Matt O’Connor SS/RHP Conrad (DE) 2024
Athletic, lanky 5’9’’, 135 pound frame. Showed great athleticism making a play deep in the hole at shortstop and making a strong throw across the diamond to get the runner by two steps. Hits from a slightly open stance at the plate with a big leg kick load. Creates some hand separation and showed the ability to go the other way with really nice extension through contact. Was consistently putting together quality at-bats with demonstrating a solid understanding of the strike zone. Squared up multiple balls over the course of the weekend for hits. Interesting 2024 follow out at Conrad.
Tyler Pirrung 3B/OF Conrad (DE) 2022
First team all-state selection at the hot corner this past Spring at Conrad. High academic kid that can really swing it. Showed that capability all weekend long collecting several base hits mostly to the pull-side with loud contact. Also played outstanding defense at third base making several really nice plays including one diving to his backhand side. Hits from a slightly open stance with quick bat speed and stays short to the ball with a slightly uphill swing path. 5’11’’, 180 pound multiple sport athlete with plenty of room to still fill out. Really exciting uncommitted 2022 jumping onto the scene that has the ability to make an immediate impact at the next level.
Wyatt Randolph 3B/OF Gilman 2024
Tremendous weekend at the plate for Randolph at this year’s Battlegrounds. Came away very impressed in my first look. Solid 5’11’’, 185 pound frame with strength well-pronounced in the swing. Showed the ability to barrel the baseball on multiple occasions and drive the ball to the gaps. Hits from a relaxed, slightly open stance at the plate with hands pre-set prior to his rhythmic load. Gets the barrel on plane early with excellent extension through contact. Swing stays short to the ball and I really like the quick hands and bat speed he showed throughout. Interested to see how he develops this off-season, and as to what role he may be able to play on the defending MIAA Champion, Gilman Greyhounds.
Adam Schiff C/3B Lake Forest (DE) 2022
Another strong, physical backstop still uncommitted from the 2022 Scout Team is 6’1’’, 185 pound Lake Forest product Adam Schiff. Really enjoyed watching him work defensively behind the dish. Showed a quick catch-and-release, strong arm, and is a tireless worker behind there. The bat shows plenty of promise on the flip-side as well hitting from a slightly open, relaxed stance at the plate. Creates nice hand separation in his smooth load and stays short to the ball with explosive bat speed and strong lower half. High academic student-athlete that we could very well see coming off the board here fairly soon.
Brayden Tidwell C/3B Sussex Central (DE) 2025
Absolutely loved watching Tidwell do his thing this past weekend at the Battlegrounds. Very high ceiling, athletic, and versatile player with the ability to do it all. Quiet and controlled load hitting from a slightly open stance from the left side. Does an excellent job staying on the ball; balanced, and behind. Gets great extension and shows natural lift in the swing. Hands are quick through the zone creating some barrel whip. Strong middle of the field approach with sneaky pop to the pull side. Also really liked his ability to manage the game behind the dish defensively in addition to already advanced receiving and blocking skills. Pitched some later on for the 2025 National squad sitting 78-80 with a big 11/5 breaking ball at 64-66. Body and frame have a tremendous amount of room to mature at just 5’10’’, 150 pounds right now. Strongly believe he is a special type of player that needs to be on major programs’ radars fairly soon.
Brendan Timmons C/3B Middletown (DE) 2022
Strong, physical 6’0’’, 185 pound frame. Collected multiple hits on the weekend including an impressive opposite field double to the wall in right center field Saturday evening. Hits from a relaxed, square stance with a toe-tap load. Really does a nice job staying behind the ball and using the whole field. Strong hands and just pure strength and ability to drive the ball present. Swing is short with extension through contact and shows more of a level path. Really found it impressive how many barrels he caught on the weekend and how loud the contact was off the bat every time. Primary backstop with the ability to play on the corners.
Brett Walmsley C Conrad (DE) 2023
All in on Walmsley as he has really swung it well in every look this summer and fall. A recent new face to our 2023 MD/DE rankings, Walmsley did nothing but impress all weekend again at the Battlegrounds showing tremendous physical strength at the dish. At 6’0’’, 200 pounds the body also shows durability to stick behind the plate defensively as well. Hits from a square stance with a toe-tap load and really creates nice hand separation getting to a strong hitting position. Attacks the baseball and swings with intent with a more level path. Drove the balls to both gaps all weekend and showed a great ability to get the barrel on the ball. Another high-academic kid with a bright future from the DCP program. Really excited to follow him next Spring at Conrad as the Red Wolves look to have several very nice pieces to make a deep run in the playoffs.
