The Commitment Corner spotlights those Maryland high school student-athletes who have made their decision on where to play their college baseball. This is a unique opportunity to get to know several of the states top talent and gain insight into their recruitment process and ultimately what made them choose the school they did.  Today we speak with: Bryant Shives

COMMITMENT: MOUNT ST. MARY'S UNIVERSITY

PBR MD:  List any awards / accolades you received in high school.

  • All-County, First Team All-Independent-Parochial School League, First Team All-Old Line Baseball Conference 2x, Honor Roll

PBR MD:  Why did you choose Mount St. Mary's?

  • Mount St. Mary’s has a great academics and also has the major I wanted. The baseball program is building and is headed in the right direction. The coaching staff is great and there is a great group of players there now. Overall, Mount St. Mary’s gives me many great opportunities.

PBR MD:  What do you plan to major in at Mount St. Mary's?

  • Physical Therapy

PBR MD:  What are some of your goals you would like to achieve at Mount St. Mary's?

  • Graduate with a GPA of 3.5 or higher.  As for baseball, I am excited to live out my dream of playing in college and maybe even making it to the next level. Hopefully we can win a Conference Championship and Regional.

PBR MD:  What are your plans this summer to get ready for school?

  • My plans this summer are to hit the weight room and prepare myself academically because of the difficulty of being a student-athlete.

PBR MD:  Are you playing summer baseball? If yes, who are you planning to play for?

  • Yes, Hagerstown Braves

PBR MD:  What other schools recruited you?

  • Millersville University and Wilson College. I committed pretty early in the process so I didn’t speak to many schools.

PBR MD:  What was your favorite part about the recruiting process?

  • Talking to coaches and weighing options.
