After getting out to as many games and workouts as possible, we are proud to announce our first edition of the state rankings for the class of 2017. Calvert Hall sophomore sensation Brandon Dorsey takes the number one spot. Although the injury bug has given a slight setback for the talented third basemen, there is no denying the talent from the UNC commit. He has already shown talent at the plate and power potential with his quick swing.
Taking the number two spot is RHP Kieran Garner from River Hill. The tall right-hander lit up radar guns the past fall and winter to the tune of an 89 mph fastball. He has shown good feel and command for a change up as well as sharp spin on the breaking ball. Grant Burleson is at the number three spot and could push the top two in the coming years. The talented left-handed pitcher has been sitting at 85-86 mph and reportedly has been up to 88 this spring on a talented Parkside pitching staff.
Maryland commit Randy Bednar sits at the number four spot and the talented two-way player is another that could make a move up the chart. With 6.7 speed, a sweet swing, and already a mid-80 mph fastball, there is still debate about what he could potentially do at the next level.
There is still plenty of time for players in this class to make their mark and move up in our rankings. Currently this is only a list of the Top 20 players in the state and, as with all of our state class rankings, the list will expand as we move throughout the year. Here is your sneak peak at our top ten.
