With our first state champion crown handed to Bel Air on Friday night for the 4A championship, we now go to the triple-header that is Monday for the 3A, 2A, and 1A state championships. What better way to sum up this season than Mother Nature once again seemingly having a hand in these games and if we can make them happen for today. This we will be looking at the 3A championship.

Before we break into the matchup, let’s take a look at how both our competitors got there.

Chesapeake

The Cougars have been the consistent and steady program through these playoffs, with their past two matchups being tight one-run games and the semifinal going into and extra innings. They had a first round bye then defeated Atlholton (11-1) and Stephen Decatur (6-2) before their tight contests in the region championship (3-2 win over Mt. Hebron) and state semifnal (4-3 win over Damascus in 8 innings).

Huntingtown

The Hurricanes have played at a high level since early in the season, having won 17 of their last 18 games since starting the year 3-3. They have taken a similar path to the championship game having won two tight contests in their previous two games to make it to the championship. After their first round bye Huntingtown defeated Great Mills and Northern by a combined score of 21-6. After a close 1-0 victory over Rockville in the Region championship it took nine innings for them to dispose of Aberdeen, winning 3-1.

Key players

Chesapeake has seen young Joe Siedler grow into his own as a key play on this roster and has been a consistent force both on offense and on the mound. Dillon Oxyer, Andrew Revels, and Roland Siwinski are forces at the top of their order to go along with Seidler. Keep an eye out for Ryan Richardson, who had the Cougars best day on the offensive end in the semifinal…Huntingtown are paced on the offensive end by Tyler Livingston as a key hitter in the middle of the lineup. Keep an eye out for AJ Demino, Danny Goucher, and Eddie Harris as well. Brandyn Vogtsberger has been throwing well these playoffs and they hope that trend to continue.

And the champion is

Another great matchup set for the finals between two teams that have mad etheir way to the championship playing consistent baseball, executing when called upon, and coming up when the big play when needed. This should be a tightly contested matchup between two well-coached programs.
