The spring high school season across Maryland has come to a close, as champions have been crowned for both public school and private school. Another successful and highly entertaining season across the state, our staff was out in full force to see the action all spring long.

Below, our staff takes a look back at what was another stellar year across the Old Line State and highlights Prep Baseball Maryland's 'Pitcher of the Year', 'Player of the Year', and the 'Newcomer of the Year'.

Player of the Year

2024 LHP/OF Henry Zatkowski (Duke University || River Hill HS)

Zatkowski has been one of the more dominant arms across the state for a few years, and he didn't let up in his senior campaign. Pitching to a 4-1 record, the southpaw struck out 74 in 40.2 IP, giving up just one earned run all spring long to a 0.17 ERA. Offensively, Zatkowski hit .455 with a 1.186 OPS and was a mainstay in the middle of the River Hill lineup.

Pitcher of the Year

2024 RHP Jake Yeager (University of Maryland || Archbishop Spalding HS)

Following in the footsteps of fellow right-hander Parker Thomas (East Carolina), Yeager entered the 2024 spring on a mission of becoming the next top arm in the state. He did just that, mowing through the top conference in the state to a 1.25 ERA with 84 strikeouts in 56 innings.

Newcomer of the Year

2027 RHP Ryder Sowa (Calvert Hall HS)

It's not easy to navigate lineups as a pitcher in the MIAA "A" Conference, let alone doing it as a true Freshman, however, right-handed pitcher Ryder Sowa did just that and was dominant as a key arm in the Calvert Hall rotation. Sowa worked to a 4-1 record, striking out 62 in 46 innings pitched, all culminating in an impressive 1.82 ERA.
