Season Outlook
Spalding returns the majority of their lineup from their 2015 MIAA A championship team and have their eyes set on a three-peat in the conference. Offense is going to be a team strength this year as the Cavaliers will have the toughest lineup in the MIAA and possibly the state.  That lineup includes the likes of Fordham recruit Billy Godrick, Princeton recruit David Harding, USC-Aiken recruit LaVale Hodges, James Madison recruit Carter Sears, and senior Barrett Smith.  All of these mentioned players are some of the highest ranked players in the state at their respective positions. Godrick, Harding, and Hodges provide speed as well to create pressure on the base paths and Hodges also will provide some pop in the middle of the order. Sears is possibly the most complete catcher in the state on the offensive and defensive ends and should help control opponent running games. Keep an eye on 2017???s Nick Vermillion, Brendan Foley, and Evan Fochtman. Vermillion became a key hitter in the Cavalier lineup as the season progressed and should build upon that this upcoming season. Foley hit .300 last season in 40 at-bats and could have an increased role this season.  Fochtman is a two-sport athlete (Football) and looks to add depth and speed to the outfield and to the lineup.

On the mound Maryland recruit Tyler Blohm will take a full role as ace of the pitching staff after sharing that title last season with Jordan Carr, who is now at UNC Ashville. Blohm has been a key fixture in the Cavalier rotation for the past two seasons and is one of the top left-handed arms in the state. Also returning is RHP Drew Hunt, who will see an increased role in the rotation this season. Keep an eye out for Zach Thompson, whom the coaches are excited about after having a strong summer and fall circuit and should also see time in the top three of the Spalding staff.  Others to see time on the mound include Vermillion and 2017 Cam Webb.

It will be another strong year this season for Archbishop Spalding. Expect to see them playing again for another conference championship.
