Calgary Future Games Trials: Quick Hits

On Wednesday, April 17th the Prep Baseball Alberta staff hosted the Calgary Future Games Trials at the Dunvernay Fielhouse in Okotoks, Alberta. It gave players the opportunity to collect updated metrics via our tech partners TrackMan and Blast Motion.
The event also serves as an identifier and qualifier for our Select Series Events such as Future Games (2026/2027), Jr. Future Games (2028/2029), Senior Future Games (2025), West Coast Games (2025/2026) and Best of the West (18U & 15U).
We broke down the top measurable data performers from the event with our Statistical Analysis, Hitting Data Dive and Pitching Data Dive. Now, we conclude our post-event coverage within this Quick Hits article as we provide scouting notes and video on eight standouts from the event.

Colton Ullyett-French 3B / RHP / Okotoks Dawgs Academy, AB / 2027A 2027 two-way RHP/CIF out of the Okotoks Dawgs academy, Ulyett-French showed his physicality at the Calgary Future Games Trials. Using his 6-foot-3, 220-pound frame he got up to 82 mph on the mound with the fastball. At the plate, he stood out showing raw power, reaching an exit velocity in the mid 90s consistently and topping at 102 mph. Combined with his present bat-to-ball ability and quick hands, Ulyett-French shows some serious upside at the dish. The upcoming season will be one to follow as he continues to develop his approach at the plate.

Ethan Renaud OF / RHP / Okotoks Dawgs Academy, AB / 2028This 2028 grad impressed on both sides of the ball at the Calgary Future Games Trials. Renaud, standing at 6-foot-1 185-pounds, showed well on the mound with his fast ball topping out at 81 mph. Renaud is able to pair his fastball with an effective slider and changeup to keep batters off-balance. At the dish, Renoud has a smooth swing and quick hands that gives him the ability to drive the barrel through the zone, producing line drives to the gaps with consistency. He had a max exit velocity of 94 mph. Renaud is one of the top 2028s in the country and will be a heavy follow for years to come.

Calum Andersen RHP / SS / Vauxhall, AB / 2027Andersen had one of the more impressive bullpens at the Future Games Trials. There’s plenty to like with the 2027 RHP. At 6-foot-2, 175-pounds, there’s projection in his frame paired with a long and loose arm. The delivery is low effort and he’s able to command the fastball in the 81-83 mph range, with the ability to spin it north of 2300 rpm. The curveball has a swing & miss profile, with two-plane break (-11.6” of HB, -12.3” of IVB), arguably his best pitch at the moment and will be very effective going forward. There’s arm-side-run to the changeup which compliments his fastball and curveball well. Andersen is one of the more projectable players in his class on the West Coast, and will be an arm to keep an eye on.

Cole Adamson C / 2B / Sturgeon Heights Collegiate, MB / 2026The Manitoba native made some noise at the Calgary Future Games Trials with his performance on both sides of the ball. Behind the dish, Adamson showed off a strong arm and quick transfer, with a 77 mph catcher velocity and 1.90 POP time. The athleticism is evident behind the dish, and there was more of the same at the dish. With a simple, balanced approach and present bat-to-ball, Adamson consistently elevated back up the middle reaching a max exit velocity of 90 mph.

Easton Kitura 2B / OF / Vauxhall High School, AB / 2026Rankings StateRank: 2 / POS: 1
Kitura, one of the top 2026s on the West Coast, showed us why with his athleticism and ability on both sides of the ball. The 6-foot-0, 180-pound Vauxhall Academy product utilizes a swing path that allows him to elevate, working to the big part of the field, reaching a max exit velocity of 94 mph. A strong and balanced lower half allows him to generate torque, assisting in driving the ball. On the defensive side, Kitura showed well at shortstop and also has the ability to play all over the field. As the LHH continues to fill out and add strength, the sky is the limit for Kitura.

Preston Tocheniuk RHP / Okotoks Dawgs Academy, AB / 2025Rankings StateRank: 17 / POS: 6
Tocheniuk showed us why he’s one of the top players in Alberta's 2025. The fastball got up to 87 mph, sitting in the 85-86 mph range, and he was able to spin it north of 2300 rpm. The curveball, arguably his best pitch, was one of the best pitches we saw at the event. It had over 13 inches of horizontal break and he spun it at 2550+ rpm. The changeup is also an effective offering, as he does an impressive job killing both induced vertical break and spin on it. With an already physical frame at 6-foot-4, 200-pounds, Tocheniuk has a bright future ahead as he continues to add strength, ultimately improving both his velocity and spin rate., making his repertoire that much more effective.

Cohen Miller SS / RHP / National Sport School, AB / 2026Rankings StateRank: 10 / POS: 3
Miller is one of the top 2026 two-ways in the province, and he showed us why at the Calgary Future Game Trials. The 5-foot-11, 170-pound SS/RHP got up to 88 mph on the mound and showed a live arm. The arm is loose and quick as he explodes down the mound. The curveball has tight two-plane break in the 71-74 mph range. At the plate, he maintains controlled aggression working in the air to his pull-side, getting up to a max exit velocity of 94 mph. The athleticism is evident on both sides of the ball, and as Miller continues to add strength and develop, he’ll be a 2026 to keep eyes on in Alberta.

Willis Takahashi C / 3B / Lethbridge Collegiate Institute, AB / 2025Rankings StateRank: 15 / POS: 4
The Lethbridge Longhorns product was one of the stand-outs behind the dish at the event. The athleticism was evident, with his quick transfer and accurate arm. At the dish, the RHH showed present bat-to-ball, and has a short path to the ball, allowing him to make easy adjustments in-game. There’s some bat speed in there as well, and he was able to use the entire field. Takahashi got up to a max exit velocity of 88 mph, but there is still plenty of room to add strength to go along with his already present athleticism.
