Meier Childhood Dream A Reality With Stanford Commitment

GROTON, Ma. - When Max Meier was younger he remembers making the long trip across the country with his family to visit relatives in the San Francisco area.

“I thought it would be a great place to go to school and play baseball, but I was young and it wasn’t realistic to go out there,” Meier reflected.

But dreams do come true and the hard-throwing right-hander is going west to college after committing to Stanford.

“When I went to Lawrence (Academy) and reclassified things changed,” the 18th-ranked 2019 New England player said. “Before the summer started my high school and travel team coaches reached out to them telling them when I was going to pitch and it went from there. The first time they saw me was at WWBA in Georgia. They started talking to me at the end of June and I went on a visit to a prospect camp there the middle of July and threw for them.”

Stanford, a 16-time College World Series participant which is tied for sixth in all-time CWS wins with 40, obviously liked what Meier showed.

“They said I had a really good tempo on the mound,” Meier noted. “I had command, all three pitches were working that day. They said I was projectable and that they could see me being an impact player when I got on campus.”

Speaking of the Stanford campus, it stood out to Meier on his visit.
