Interest in McGrath up after temporary setback

QUINCY, Ma. - Colin McGrath is attempting to put his recruiting process back on schedule after a collarbone injury back in May. “I’m a little behind where I want to be,” admitted the Catholic Memorial senior. “I’m confident in what I have, but a little behind with the collarbone injury affecting my velo. I was mid- to upper-80s before but then it dropped with the injury. Big colleges pushed away when they saw that. “It happened in the middle of May … mid-game. The clavicle dislocated. The velocity has not been the same since high school season. It’s getting back up, but it wasn’t where I wanted in the summer. It was 86-87 in the spring and 84-85 in the summer.” Maine and Rhode Island were among those showing interest in McGrath a year ago but now the 6-2 200-pounder is weighing offers from Division II schools St. Anselm and Merrimack. “They both like my slider a lot,” McGrath said. “It’s hard and they like that.” But there are other colleges to consider as well for the third-rated unsigned senior right-handed pitcher in New England. “I still have a list of schools which includes Fordham, Bryant and Babson,” McGrath noted. “I’m doing camps at Fordham and Bryant, they both need a couple arms.” |
