Sam Griesbauer RHP / 1B / Falmouth, MA / 2021FALMOUTH, Ma. - The state of North Carolina is no stranger to Sam Griesbauer. “My grandmother and grandfather have a house on the Outer Banks,” Griesbauer noted. “I spent a lot of time there when I was younger.” The Falmouth junior will be spending even more time in the state after making a commitment to play baseball at North Carolina State. “Initially I started talking to coach (Scott) Foxhall, the previous pitching coach there who is now an assistant at Mississippi State,” Griesbauer reflected. “That was in August before my sophomore year “He was replaced by Clint Chrysler and my summer coach (Jared Evans) put me in touch with him. He’s an amazing guy. He got really close with me, not just about baseball but about family and checking on things beyond baseball. That’s important to me.” Other offers were there including UConn, not far from home, as well as a full scholarship offer from Stetson. “I talked to others but I had a really good relationship with coach Chrysler,” Griesbauer explained. “When I went and saw the campus it was beautiful. I loved it. “When it came time for a decision, their offer was not as much as some of the others but I felt in my heart it was the place to be. It was a really tough decision - go for free or go where your heart is at. Once my family talked directly with coach Chrysler, they loved him.” The seventh-ranked 2021 in New England decided to go with his heart. “I’ve always wanted to play in a Power Five conference since my recruitment started,” Griesbauer said. “My dream has always been to play in Omaha, so I want to be on the best possible team. Being in the ACC, that’s the competition I want.” |
