Future Games Gives Big Boost To Belgrave

AUBURN, Ma. - The Future Games has helped give Nigel Belgrave a wider perspective on college.

The Auburn High School junior is now talking with 25 schools, all but three since playing for Team Massachusetts in the Future Games in August.

“I did pretty well there,” the 6-3 180-pound right-handed pitcher explained. “It was one of my best performances ever ... topping out at 90. I did that before at a tournament but nobody recorded it.”

A visit to Kent State has taken place, with Maryland another school high on the list of the third-ranked player in the 2020 class in New England. Boston College, Northeastern and Maine were showing interest prior to the Future Games.

“Last year I didn’t think I’d be a Division I recruit,” admitted Belgrave. “I thought I’d be D-II or D-III and play the field and hit, but now I see I can be a D-I player.”

That realization came after making a switch from a third baseman and part-time pitcher to focusing on pitching as the ticket to his future.

“After pitching at multiple tournaments and talking to schools interested, I knew I could be a D-I athlete,” said Belgrave, who also received college exposure this summer at the Massachusetts Top Prospect Games in July. “So now I’m looking at more toward just pitching.”
