Another Wade Ready To Tackle College Athletics

NEEDHAM, Ma. - A family full of college athletes is about to add another.

The difference this time around is that Patrick Wade will be the first in the sport of baseball.

“Going into my freshman year I wasn’t sure if I was going to play baseball in college,” the St. Sebastian’s 2021 reflected. “But that summer I was the youngest kid playing on a legion team and I loved the experience. I fell in love with playing baseball and have gotten more serious since. Up until then I was always playing multiple sports, but after that summer season I knew that I loved baseball and wanted to do it.”

Holy Cross, Dartmouth, Harvard, Penn, Davidson and Navy are the frontrunners to land the second-rated incoming senior first baseman in New England, whose mother Meg played basketball at Dartmouth while father Geoff participated in football and track at the same college. “My parents have always pushed me to be the best student and best athlete I can be,” explained Wade. “They never pushed me into any one sport, they let me choose what I want to play.

“I have three older siblings that all played college sports and it was great to see their experiences,” Webb added. “They’ve encouraged me to be the best student-athlete I can be.

Older brother Thayer competes in Crew at Harvard while Geoff Jr. and Elizabeth played sports at Holy Cross, Geoff an all-Patriot League quarterback in football and Elizabeth a pitcher in softball.

“Sports have always been a big thing in our family,” Wade related. “You name it, we played it … and it was always competitive. When you’re younger you always want to  win and that drove me to be competitive and be in the best shape possible.

“It’s also shown me once in college how hard you have to work. You have to be extremely responsible, extremely disciplined and you have to work. You have to be a workaholic to perfect your craft. Do whatever’s necessary to be the best you can be in your sport.”

The desire to excel has the 6-6 230-pounder continuing to get better thanks to a strong work ethic.
