Quick Hits: Southwest Louisiana Fall ID

Alex Armand
Louisiana Scouting Director

Moss Bluff, LA - On Sunday, October 13, 2024, the Prep Baseball Louisiana staff traveled to the Sam Houston High School, to host our last event of the fall, which featured prospects across the state's 2025-2029 classes.  Each participant went through a pro-style workout that consisted of running a laser-timed 60 yard dash using Swift Performance, defensive evaluations, and batting practice using Trackman Baseball and Blast Motion.  Pitchers finished the day off by throwing a bullpen with Trackman Baseball to receive all of their data and metrics.  Below, we take a look at some of the top performers from Sunday's event.

UNCOMMITTED ARMS SHINE

+ 2026 LHP Lucas Lawrence (Catholic BR HS)

The former Future Gamer looked awfully sharp this past Sunday and provides further validation that he's continuing to trend in the right direction.  Lawrence moved aggressively down the slope with intent and sat 87-90 mph with his heater, which he was able to land to both sides of the plate, as well as up in the zone.  His "1-7" shaped 74-75 mph CB was sharp with two-plane break, as was his sweeping 76-77 mph SL that had the look of a swing & miss offering.  Add to that a 77-78 mph CH that he was able to fade to his arm-side and you've got a bonafide four-pitch mix.  At 6'5" 185 lbs. with plenty of projection left, it's easy to dream on what's to come for the Catholic BR product, but more importantly, he took another step forward by raising the floor on Sunday.

+ 2027 RHP/INF Owen Galley (Sam Houston HS)

Galley had a super successful freshman campaign for the Broncos and will undoubtedly be relied upon even more this coming season.  A two-way prospect, Galley is a quality defender with solid bat-to-ball skills that resulted in a max exit velocity of 91 mph.  On the mound is where he really shined on Sunday.  He's a smooth mover down the mound with a clean arm path and really understands how to pitch.  His FB sat in the mid-80's and worked up to a personal best 88 mph.  Galley also showed feel for all three of his secondary offerings.

+ 2025 LHP Hayes Mire (Kaplan HS)

The Kaplan product was another uncommitted arm that showed well at Sunday's Southwest Louisiana Fall ID.  Mire worked exclusively from the stretch and used a shorter arm action to release the ball from a 3/4-high 3/4 slot.  His FB velocity ticked up a bit from our last look, as he sat 85-87 mph, while also showing good feel his 72-74 mph CB and 77-78 mph SL.  Mire is also a guy that is young for his class, as he'll graduate at 17 years old, which is something to keep in mind for college programs looking to add an arm to their 2025 recruiting class.

YOUNG BRONCOS SHOW WELL

+ 2029 OF/C Hudson Anderson (Sam Houston HS)

5'11" 160 lbs. athletic and lean frame.  Anderson was one of several young prospects that showed well last Sunday.  Still a year away from high school, Anderson is a really good overall athlete and runner for his age, as evidenced by his 6.98 laser-timed 60, which was good for third best at the event.  He's also a versatile defender with a good arm from the OF (83 mph) and from the crouch (74 mph | 2.07-2.26).  At the plate, however, is where he really showed well.  The left-handed hitter works from an upright stance with a simple load and stride.  He does a good job of staying behind the baseball and showed the ability to impact baseball with exit velocities up to 86.2 mph with his hardest hit balls going to the opposite field gap.

+ 2029 INF/C Bennett Hearod (Sam Houston HS)

Coming from strong baseball bloodlines with his father, Beau Hearod, being a former All-American at Alabama, we had high expectations for Bennett heading into Sunday and he delivered.  Hearod took one of the best BP rounds of the day on Sunday, especially considering he's still a year away from stepping on Sam Houston's campus.  He keeps a tight and compact turn to deliver a heavy barrel to contact with produces hard contact from gap-to-gap and a max exit velocity of 90.8 mph.  What was also impressive is that he showed a good understanding of the strike zone and never chased at a pitch out of the zone.

+ 2029 OF/LHP Jett Hebert (Sam Houston HS)

Hebert is another young Bronco prospect that showed well in all facets at Sunday's event.  He's a really good overall athlete and posted a 6.96 laser-timed 60, which was the second best at the event.  A future centerfielder, Hebert moved well in the outfield and showed a good arm as well, up to 82 mph with backspin and carry.  A left-handed hitter, he starts in a slightly open and upright stance, and brings his hands up to shoulder height, while using a modified leg kick load and stride.  He uses quick hands to deliver a direct path to contact and stays level through extension.  Hebert packs a punch and is a guy that will impact the game in a variety of ways once he gets to Sam Houston's campus.
