The Prep Baseball Louisiana Diamond Notes serves as an opportunity for our staff to highlight players, from across the state, that put up impressive performances on a given week, yet fell short of our Mizuno Player & Pitcher of the Week honors.

Player of the Week

Corey Cousin OF / RHP / Slidell, LA / 2024 Rankings  StateRank: 11 / POS: 1 OverallRank: 418 / POS: 71 Cousin has been arguably the best two-way prospect in the entire state this season, and in Week 7, he continued to perform at a high level.  The Oklahoma recruit led the Tigers to a 6-0 victory last Monday against Ponchatoula, after tossing a complete-game shutout, giving up only 2 H with 4 BB and 11 K's.  He then turned around on Saturday and tossed another complete-game one hit shutout with 3 BB and 10 K's to lead Slidell to a 2-0 win over Northshore.  At the plate, he was just as impressive last week, as he went 8-12 (.667) with a HR, 2 2B, 7 RBI, and 5 R.

 

Pitcher of the Week

Jace Duhon RHP / South Beauregard, LA / 2024 Rankings  StateRank: 37 / POS: 11  South Beauregard currently owns a 22-3 overall record and a big reason for the team's success has been their deep pitching staff that is led by Duhon.  The University of Louisiana-Monroe recruit had arguably his best week overall last week in two separate starts.  Last Monday, in our Week 7 Game of the Week against Lutcher, he tossed a complete-game shutout and gave up only 3 H with 1 BB and 8 K's.  Duhon then turned around on Saturday and tossed another complete-game shutout against Pine Prairie, giving up 3 H with 2 BB and 6 K's, to finish the week 2-0 with 14 K's.

 

Other Notable Performances

	Trey Hawsey 1B / OF / West Monroe, LA / 2024 Rankings  StateRank: 7 / POS: 1 OverallRank: 445 / POS: 13 The Louisiana Tech recruit had a nice week at the plate during the Rebels 3-0 run in Week 7.  For the week, Hawsey went 6-9 (.667) with a HR, 2 2B, 6 RBI, and 3 R.
	Layden Alwell INF / Pineville, LA / 2024 Rankings  StateRank: 214 / POS: 15 The uncommitted senior had a nice week at the plate for the Rebels, as he went 6-11 (.545) with 1 2B and 4 RBI's.

Carson Rainwater RHP / DeQuincy, LA / 2025 Rankings  StateRank: 184 / POS: 37 Rainwater had quite the week for DeQuincy, both at the plate and on the mound, in Week 7.  He hit right at a .467 clip with 2 2B, 4 RBI, and 7 R, and also went 1-0 on the mound in a complete-game efort with 9 K's, which moves his season ERA to 0.68.

Hudson Conner RHP / Eunice, LA / 2024 Conner had a big week on the mound for Eunice last week, as went 2-0 with wins over Deridder and Plaquemine, while giving up only 4 H and 0 ER across 13 IP with 4 BB and 16 K's.

Wyatt Buratt RHP / C / Ascension Christian, LA / 2025 Rankings  StateRank: 220 / POS: 32 Buratt had a big week, as he hit at a .571 clip last week with 2 HR, 1 2B, 1 3B, and 6 RBI.  He also tossed 2 shutout IP with 3 K's and threw out 2 of 3 baserunners in two games.

	Wyatt Stafford 1B /  Ascension Christian, LA / 2025 Rankings  StateRank: 219 / POS: 13 The uncommitted junior had an impressive week for Ascension Christian.  For the week, he hit at a .400 clip with 2 2B and 4 RBI.
	Jacob Brignac RHP / Ascension Christian, LA / 2025 Brignac came through in a big district matchup against St. John by tossing a complete-game giving up 8 H, 3 R, and 1 ER with 6 K's.  He also contributed at the plate by hitting at a .500 clip with 1 RBI.

Bryce Fontenot INF / Sulphur, LA / 2024 Rankings  StateRank: 28 / POS: 4  The McNeese recruit had a big week at the plate last week, as the Tors went 4-1 in their five games.  Fontenot went 8-15 (.533) with 1 HR, 1 2B, 1 3B, and 7 RBI's, while also stealing 5 bases.

Cooper Winchester C / St. Paul's , LA / 2024 Rankings  StateRank: 14 / POS: 1 The former Future Gamer and Air Force recruit had a nice week at the plate for the Wolves.  Winchester went 5-9 (.556) with 1 HR, 2 2B, 1 3B, 2 RBI, and 2 R.

	Bradley Hanlon INF / Neville, LA / 2024 Rankings  StateRank: 123 / POS: 20 The Copiah-Lincoln recruit had a nice week for the Tigers in Week 7.  Hanlon went 9-12 (.750) with 9 RBI, 3 BB, and 3 SB.
	Zerrick Jones OF / Jena, LA / 2024 Jones had a phenomenal week for Jena last week, as the team went 4-0.  For the week, he hit at an absurd .917 clip with 11 R and 4 BB, and was also 15 for 16 on stolen base attempts.

	Everett Denny INF / RHP / Jesuit, LA / 2024 Rankings  StateRank: 86 / POS: 7 The uncommitted senior went 5-10 (.500) with 3 2B and 2 RBI's last week for the Blue Jays.
	J.D. Hidalgo INF / RHP / Catholic New Iberia, LA / 2025 Rankings  StateRank: 56 / POS: 15 The uncommitted junior had a nice week at the plate last week, as he went 5-8 (.625) with 3 2B's in the team's three games.
	Ryan Gregson INF / Hahnville, LA / 2024 Rankings  StateRank: 97 / POS: 5 Hahnville has been rolling as of late, and Gregson helped the Tigers cause in Week 7 with a big week at the plate.  For the week, he went 7-11 (.636) with 2 2B, 4 RBI, and 6 R, while also not striking out one time.
	Gunner Courtney SS / South Beauregard, LA / 2024 The Southeast Arkansas recruit went 7-11 (.636) last week with a .714 OBP with 3 RBI, 4 R, and 3 SB, as the Golden Knights moved their season record to 22-3.
	Jed Henry 3B / South Beauregard, LA / 2026 The uncommitted sophomore swung the bat well last week, as he went 8-13 (.614) in the Golden Knights four games last week with 2 2B and 7 RBI's.
	Cole Navarro RHP / Brother Martin, LA / 2025 Rankings  StateRank: 66 / POS: 14 The uncommitted junior earned the win against Jesuit last week, after tossing 6 innings and giving up 3 ER on 6 H with 4 K's.  Navarro also went 8-14 (.571) at the plate with 2 2B, 5 RBI, 4 R, and 3 BB.
	Josh Lim OF / Dunham, LA / 2025 Rankings  StateRank: 20 / POS: 6 The University of Louisiana-Lafayette recruit swung the bat well in Week 7 for the Tigers.  For the week, Lim went 6-10 (.600) with 1 HR, 1 2B, 2 3B, 10 RBI, and also had a stolen base.
	Bradyn Cupit LHP / West Monroe, LA / 2026 Rankings  StateRank: 2 / POS: 1 OverallRank: 61 / POS: 9 The LSU recruit has been stellar all season long for the Rebels and last week was no different.  Cupit tossed a 5 inning complete-game one hit shutout, against Alexandria last week, with 1 BB and 11 K's.  This was his third straight outing with 11 K's.
