Prep Baseball Louisiana: 2027 State Rankings Update (Risers)

Alex Armand
Louisiana Scouting Director

Yesterday, we released our updated state rankings update, for the 2027 class, now that the summer season has come to an end.  Throughout the summer, our staff traveled across the state, to see as many prospects and teams as possible, and we were able to see more prospects than we've ever seen before.  Our state rankings for the 2027 class expanded to 150 players in total for this update, and there were plenty of movers and shakers throughout the list.  Today, we take a look at a few guys that made a move up in this rankings update.

STATE RANKINGS RISERS (2027 CLASS)

+ 2027 MIF Ian Smith (Rummel HS)

The Raiders will have to replace their starting shortstop of the last years, in 2024 Michael Ryan, who is now a freshman at LSU, and the former Jr. Future Gamer looks to be the guy to fill those shoes.  Smith showed up to our New Orleans Summer ID, back in July, and looked noticeably stronger.  He posted personal bests in the 60 (7.04), infield velocity (82 mph), and max exit velocity (90.6 mph), which is why he moves up five spots to #15 overall in this update.

We first saw the Teurlings Catholic product back at our Team Louisiana Scout Day in May, and then got another in-game look at him at our Louisiana Summer Championships tournament in July.  Guillory used a compact arm stroke to work his FB up to 88 mph, sitting mostly 83-85 mph with developing feel for secondaries.  It's a big 6'2" 195 lbs. frame that should make some jumps in the future.  Guillory moves up eight spots in this update to #17 overall.
The sophomore southpaw made a name for himself at our New Orleans Summer ID back in July.  Waguespack uses a shorter arm action to release the ball from a lower 3/4 slot.  He showed the ability to drive his 82-85 mph FB in to the glove-side, as well as sink it away arm-side with 15.8" of average horizontal movement.  Waguespack's 73-76 mph SL had short & tight lateral break, and he also flashed a 80-81 mph CH with arm-side sink & run.  The St. Charles Catholic product breaks into our State Rankings at the #18 spot.
Boudreaux is another guy that we had the good fortune of seeing at our Louisiana Summer Championships tournament and we came away impressed.  The Teurlings Catholic product uses a loose and whippy arm action to release the ball from a 3/4-lower 3/4 slot.  His FB ranged anywhere from 84-88 mph with heavy life through the zone and he commanded it best to the glove-side.  Boudreaux also flashed a low-70's SL and really good feel for a 75-79 late-fading CH.  He breaks into our State Rankings at #19 overall.
Parkview Baptist is becoming somewhat of an "Arm Farm", as the program is littered with talented pitching prospects with Wooten being one of those guys.  The sophomore southpaw attended our Top Prospect Games this summer and had a stellar outing on the mound.  A smooth and easy mnover down the slope, he releases the ball from a lower release height.  His 81-84 mph FB had some life through the zone and he also flashed a 63-65 mph CB that had good shape with an average spin rate of 2344 RPM's.  Wooten's 70-71 mph CH, however, was the pitch that really caught our eye with -17.6" of horizontal movement.  He moves up forty-four spots in this update to #21 overall.
