Prep Baseball Louisiana: 2027 Class State Rankings Update (June 2024)

The 2024 high school baseball spring season has come to an end in the state of Louisiana, which means it's time for the summer circuit to kick-off, and it also means it's time for an update to our state rankings. This spring, our staff was able to get out and see more teams and players than ever before, as we saw close to 100 games this past spring. Today, our three-week stretch of state rankings updates comes to an end with the 2027 class. We've expanded the list to 100 prospects and although there wasn't a lot of movement at the top, there were still movers and shakers up and down the list. Below, we give a snapshot of the Top 10, dive into the Top 3, and take a look at a few of the risers in this update. TOP 3 (DEEP DIVE)

+ 2027 OF Jordin Griffin (Barbe HS)

Griffin maintains his status as the state's top prospect in the 2027 class, after a really nice freshman campaign for state runner-up Barbe. The LSU recruit was the Bucs everyday starter in centerfield and finished the season hitting .341 with 6 2B, 4 3B, 12 RBI, and 25 R. On top of his offense, his defense in the outfield was stellar all spring, as he made several big catches, but none were bigger than his diving catch in the late innings of the Bucs semifinal game against Benton.

+ 2027 RHP/INF Devyn Downs (Sterlington HS)

6'1" 175 lbs. athletic frame with some projection still left. The LSU recruit won the everyday third base job for the Panthers and hit in the middle of their order this spring. Downs hit at a .366 clip with 4 HR, 4 2B, 3 3B, and 25 RBI. In addition to his offense, Downs was relied upon on the mound, primarily out of the bullpen. In our two looks at him this year, he sat 87-90 mph with his FB and ran it up to 91 mph with life through the zone. Downs should be relied upon, on the mound, even more next season.

+ 2027 LHP/OF Lawton Littleton (Barbe HS)

When Littleton left the Jr. Future Games last summer, we were pretty confident that he would earn a spot in the Bucs pitching rotation as a freshman, and that's exactly what he did. The uncommitted southpaw ended up being Barbe's #2 on the mound and enjoyed a fantastic freshman campaign. Littleton posted an 8-3 record and 1 save and a 1.21 ERA with 76 K's to 20 BB across 57 2/3 IP. Next year, as a sophomore, it looks like he'll be the Bucs #1 on the mound, and he'll likely have an opportunity to earn a spot in the outfield as well.

RISERS

+ 2027 LHP Kade Luker (Cedar Creek HS)

6'1" 165 lbs. lean frame with a ton of projection still left. The southpaw bursted onto the prep scene this spring with a fantastic freshman campaign for Cedar Creek. Luker finished the year with a 2.50 ERA with 75 K's across 50 1/3 IP. What was even more impressive, is that he tossed two complete game no-hitters this spring as well. He moves up fifteen spots in this update to #11 overall.

+ 2027 1B/OF Kaleb Guarisco (Hahnville HS)

Athletic 5'11" 180 lbs. frame with a strong lower-half. Hahnville looks to be littered with talented young prospects and Guarisco is one of those guys. We had a couple of looks at Guarisco this spring and we liked what we saw. A left-handed hitter, he starts in an upright and slightly open stance with his hands held higher, before dropping a heavy barrel to contact that produces gap to gap power. He's one of the many prospects that we're excited to see nexy week at our Top Prospect Games on June 11th at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette.

+ 2027 C Cooper Austin (Central BR HS)

It's tough to crack a high school lineup as a freshman, especially in Class 5A, and even more so at the catching position, but that's exactly what Austin did this spring for the Wildcats, and he was stellar in doing so. Managing one of the better pitching staffs in the state, the freshman backstop did an excellent job all season behind the dish for Central BR, and was named 1st Team All-District for his efforts. Austin moves up four spots to #16 in this update.
