Prep Baseball Louisiana: 2026 Class State Rankings Update (May 2024)

Alex Armand
Louisiana Scouting Director

The 2024 high school baseball spring season has come to an end in the state of Louisiana, which means it's time for the summer circuit to kick-off, and it also means it's time for an update to our state rankings.  This spring, our staff was able to get out and see more teams and players than ever before, as we saw close to 100 games this past spring.  Today, we continue our three-week stretch of state rankings updates with the 2026 class.  We've expanded the list to ? prospects and there was quite a bit of movement with this update.  Below, we give a snapshot of the Top 10, dive into the Top 3, and take a look at a few of the risers in this update.  Be sure to follow us, across all of our social media platforms, as we continue to provide more content and coverage on our state rankings update for the 2026 class.

TOP 3 (DEEP DIVE)

+ 2026 LHP Bradyn Cupit (West Monroe HS)

The West Monroe product enjoyed a fantastic sophomore campaign that ended with West Monroe claiming the LHSAA Non-Select Division I State Title.  Cupit was the winning pitcher in that final game for the Rebels and took a no-hitter into the 5th inning, and finished the game throwing 5 1/3 innings, giving up only 1 ER on 2 H with 4 BB and 5 K's.  For the season, he finished with a 9-1 record, 1 save, and 1.57 ERA with 89 K's to only 17 BB.  The LSU recruit takes over the top spot in this rankings update, as he has a high floor with a 89-92 mph FB and an upper-70's SL with some sweep and spin rates near 2600 RPM's.

+ 2026 RHP Logan Sorrel (Parkview Baptist HS)

Sorrel was Dunham's #1 on the mound again this spring and was stellar for the Tigers all season.  He finished the year with a 1.04 ERA and 66 K's across 54 IP, while holding opponents to a .110 BAA.  We saw Sorrel back in late-January in a preseason scrimmage, where he sat 88-91 mph with his FB, while mixing in a sharp 76-78 mph "11-5" shaped CB.  There's an ease to Sorrel's delivery and with a 6'3" 195 lbs. frame, there's more in the tank, which is why he'll likely be heavily recruited this summer on the circuit.  He moves up a spot to #2 in this state rankings update.

The Loranger product made a big move up our last state rankings update and his upward trajectory doesn't seem to be slowing down anytime soon.  Holton attended our Luccini Scout Day a couple of weekends ago, and provided an eye-opening look heading into the summer.  An athletic mover down the slope with a super-quick arm, he worked his FB in the 90-93 mph range, topping out at 94 mph with ride through the zone and spin rates up to 2532 RPM.  He paired his heater well with a sharp 80-81 mph SL (2600-2720 RPM) and flashed an above average 83-84 mph CH.  At 6'3" 185 lbs. with long-limbs and a ton of projection still left, Holton has cemented himself as a must-see prospect this summer for college recruiters.  He moves up again in this update to #3 in the state.

RISERS

The Bears will have to replace quite a bit on the mound next season with the departures of three key seniors on the mound, and Richardson looks to be one of the guys who will eat up a lot of those leftover innings.  We have tracked the sophomore right-hander closely, over the last couple of years, as he's a former two-time Jr. Future Gamer, and it looks like his velocity and "stuff" is starting to make a move.  In an April JV game against Barbe, we had the opportunity to see him, in what turned out to be a fantastic outing.  Richardson worked his FB in the 83-87 mph range, which was a good jump from the fall and there's likely another jump or two on the horizon.  He moves into the Top-10 in this state rankings update to #9 overall.

Vincent caught our eye this spring, during in & out in a district-game against St. Thomas More, as he showcased a strong and accurate arm from the outfield.  That night against the Cougars, he showed off his hit tool, as he collected two hits off a future UL-Lafayette recruit, and we left that game circling his name, as a guy to see on the mound later in the season.  Fast-forward a couple of weeks and we were able to see the sophomore southpaw, on the mound, against the Cougars again, and he was awfully intriguing.  The delivery has some "Chris Sale" vibes, as he strides slightly closed and releases the ball from a 3/4 slot.  His FB sits in the 82-86 mph range and his mid-70's SL has the makings of being a future swing & miss type of pitch.  Vincent's season ended in dramatic fashion, as he earned the win in the State Title game for the Rebels, after tossing 6 IP and giving up only 1 unearned run on 3 H with 4 K's.  He moves up to the #12 spot in this state rankings update.

Our Top Prospect Games event on June 11th, at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette, has turned out to be one of the most talent-filled events that we've ever had in Louisiana, and Gray is one of the guys that we're dying to see, after getting a quick look at him at the end of the spring.  In the first round of the playoffs, Gray entered the game in the Top of the 6th innning and his 6'3" 160 lbs. long-limbed frame was the first thing to stick out.  A smooth mover down the mound with a quick arm and clean delivery; Gray's FB sat 86-87 mph with life through the zone and his CB showed promise, even though he only had to use it one time during the outing.  Projectable 6'3" right-hander's that move the way that he moves, aren't easy to come by, so we expect for Gray to be a big follow this summer, as he jolts up the rankings in this update to #14 overall.
