PBR Louisiana State Rankings Update: 2027 Class (February 2024)
February 16, 2024
The winter season has come to an end for high school baseball prospects across the country, which means it's time for the spring high school season to kick-off and it means it's time for an update to our state rankings. We spent the winter evaluating prospects at our events, and we also kept close tabs on their performances for their resepective high school programs. This update for the 2027 class is a modest one, especially at the top, as the Top-10 remains unchanged. We've expanded the list to 75 prospects and although there wasn't a lot of movement at the top, there was still plenty of risers in the entire group. Below, we give a snapshot of the Top 10 and we also highlight a few players who increased their stock coming out of the winter break.

RISERS & NEWCOMERS
+ 2027 C/RHP Cooper Austin (Central BR HS)
The freshman backstop attended our Baton Rouge Preseason ID last month and turned in a solid all-around showing. Austin received and blocked well behind the plate with pop times of 2.04-2.13 and was up to 73 mph from the crouch. We had the chance to recently see him in game, as he was the starting backstop for the Wildcats varsity team against Southside HS, and we were impressed with the way that he carried himself. He took solid at-bats and handled Central's arms well for a freshman, and he also tossed a shutout inning on the mound. Austin moves up quite a bit in this update to #20 overall.
+ 2027 MIF Gregory Ruiz III (Holy Cross HS)
Athletic 5'9" 150 lbs. frame that is still developing and will continue to add strength as he matures. Ruiz had a nice showing at our New Orleans Preseason ID and looks to be another talented infielder out of Holy Cross. He showed quick and athletic footwork on the infield with a quick release and accurate throws across the diamond. At the plate, he gets the most out of his frame right now, as he creates a lot of torque using lower-half, which creates a lot of hard contact off the bat. Ruiz III checks in at #27 in this update.
+ 2027 OF/RHP Reece Tillman (Central BR HS)
Tillman was another Wildcat who impressed at our Baton Rouge Preseason ID last month. He's got a physical and strong frame for a freshman at 6'0" 180 lbs. He works from an upright and relaxed stance at the plate and delivers a heavy barrel at contact to produce exit velocities up to 90.4 mph. Tillman also had a solid showing on the mound, and he moves up to #29 overall in this update.
+ 2027 INF Barrett Coody (Rosepine HS)
Physical 6'0" 225 lbs. frame with a thick and strong lower-half. The Eagles have produced quite a few notable prospects over the last few years, and it looks like they have a good crop of young guys on campus. Coody's offense stood out at our Baton Rouge Preseason ID, thanks to a simple set-up and a lot of hard gap to gap contact with a max exit velociyt of 93.3 mph. He checks in at #34 in this update.
+ 2027 INF/RHP Dylan Robinson (St. Augustine HS)
Baseball bloodlines run thick in the Robinson household, as Dylan is the younger brother of talented two-way prospect and junior Tulane commit Bryce Robinson. At 5'10" 140 lbs. with wiry strength, there's considerable projection with Robinson, as he's got a ton of room to continue to add strength as he matures. The St. Augustine product is a solid overall athlete who posted a 7.18 in the 60 at last month's Baton Rouge Preseason ID, and also showed soft hands and clean actions on the infield. Much like his older brother, he also offers up intrigue on the mound, thanks to his ability to spin the baseball with a loose and whippy arm action. Robinson moves to #33 overall in the state in this update.
