PBR Louisiana State Rankings Update: 2025 Class (February 2024)

The winter season has come to an end for high school baseball prospects across the country, which means it's time for the spring high school season to kick-off and it means it's time for an update to our state rankings.  We spent the winter evaluating prospects at our events, and we also kept close tabs on their performances for their resepective high school programs.  This update for the 2025 class is a modest one, especially at the top, as the Top-10 remains unchanged.  We've expanded the list to 250 prospects and although there wasn't a lot of movement at the top, there was still plenty of risers in the entire group.  Below, we give a snapshot of the Top 10 and we also highlight a few players who increased their stock coming out of the winter break.

RISERS & NEWCOMERS

+ 2025 RHP Samuel Mitchell (Parkview Baptist HS)

Mitchell was a standout performer at our annual State Games event last fall and he's continued to trend in the right direction as the spring approaches.  He's gained more physicality over the off-season and now stands in at 6'1" 185 lbs. with projection still left.  In a January scrimmage, we saw him work his FB in the 88-89 mph range, which was an uptick from where we saw him at during the fall.  The Parkview Baptist product finished his no-hit inning of work with one strikeout and looks primed to have a big junior campaign for the Eagles.  Mitchell moves up eighteen spots to #24 overall in this update.

+ 2025 LHP Hayden Pearson (Ascension Episcopal HS)

6'0" 190 lbs. durable frame with a strong lower-half.  We had the chance to see Pearson at a December Team Louisiana tryout and the southpaw impressed during his bullpen.  He's got a smooth and repeatable delivery with a clean arm action and feel for all three pitches.  Pearson's FB sat 85-87 mph with some life through the zone and he showed the ability to land his 75-77 mph SL for strikes.  The Louisiana-Lafayette recruit moves up six spots in this update to #25 overall.

+ 2025 RHP Jude Weller (Live Oak HS)

It had been over a year since we had last seen the former Jr. Future Gamer, and he showed well in his two-inning stint during last month's Baton Rouge area umpires scrimmage.  The Tulane recruit aggressively attacked hitters with a 85-87 mph FB, which paired well with his "11-5" shaped 70-73 mph CB that he was able to land for strikes.  Weller should be an integral part of Live Oak's success this spring, as he moves back into the Top-50 of our State Rankings at #46 overall.

+ 2025 OF Chase Harris (Catholic BR HS)

The Bears have one of the deepest and speediest outfields in the entire state with Harris being one of those guys.  The 6'1" 150 lbs. left-handed hitting outfielder attended our Baton Rouge Preseason ID and made the most of his opportunity.  He started his day off by posting an event-best 6.63 laser-timed 60, in less than ideal conditions, on what turned out to be a frigid cold day.  Harris works from an upright stance in the box and uses a simple load and stride, while working with a line drive approach mostly to the pull-side.  He also showed a good arm from the outfield up to 86 mph.  His offense still needs some refinement, but there's no denying his overall tool-set, which is why he moves up to #65 in this State Rankings update.

+ 2025 MIF Edward Henriquez (Catholic BR HS)

Athletic 5'11" 175 lbs. frame with some present physicality.  We've been able to track Henriquez over the last twelve months and he had his best showing to date at last month's Baton Rouge Preseason ID.  At the plate, he worked short to long driving the baseball up the middle and to the opposite field on a line, which resulted in exit velocities up to 90.3 mph.  His defensive round, however, is where he really impressed, as he showed soft hands and athletic actions with a good arm across the diamond up to 84 mph.  Henriquez may just end up being Catholic's starting second baseman this year and is a really good uncommitted 2025 to monitor this spring.  He moves up to #80 overall in this State Rankings update.
