Louisiana Picks To Click: Infielders
December 20, 2023
As the 2024 Louisiana high school season nears, and we finish up our last round of rankings update of the year, we take a look at some players that are primed and ready for big years. This can be a pivotal year for many of these players, as some will earn starting spots on their varsity squads, and others who will be relied on as key contributors. Today, we continue our "Pick to Click" series, by highlighting several infielders below that we feel are primed to make a splash in 2024. Be sure to follow along the next few days, as we will be releasing additional "picks to click" for different position groups.
LOUISIANA PICKS TO CLICK: INFIELDERS
+ 2025 MIF Rowen Bergeron (Opelousas Catholic HS)
We've talked about Bergeron a lot since we had the chance to see him at our State Games event this past fall, and he's a guy that we're definitely looking forward to seeing this coming spring. The Opelousas Catholic HS product is a good overall athlete, as he posted a 6.94 laser-timed 60 at the State Games. His carrying tool, however, is his bat, as he offers some of the best bat speed in the state's 2025 class. Bergeron repeats his swing well and stays balanced and in his legs from start to finish to whip the barrel head through the zone. For schools looking for an uncommitted infielder with offensive upside, look no further than Bergeron.
+ 2025 MIF Jackson Beddoe (Sulphur HS)
The former Future Gamer enjoyed a successful sophomore season for the Tors, and with the departure of a large senior class, he'll be relied upon even more this coming season. A versatile defender, Beddoe can play all three infield spots, though he'll likely land at either second base or third base at the next level. Offensively, however, is where he really shines. The Sulphur product takes a direct path to contact and stays on-plane through extension a long time, and is able to drive the ball to all fields. Competing in one of the tougher districts in the state, he'll have the chance to really make a name for himself this season.
+ 2025 MIF Ryder Planchard (Holy Cross HS)
Athletic and wiry 5'10" 150 lbs. frame with plenty of room to add strength. The combination of Planchard and 2026 Dominic Pellegrin give the Tigers one of the best young middle infield duos in the state. Planchard exudes crisp actions on the infield with soft hands and an accurate arm across the diamond. At the plate, he keeps things pretty simple with a line drive approach working mostly up the middle of the field.
+ 2025 MIF/RHP Brecken Bordelon (St. Louis Catholic HS)
6'1" 165 lbs. lean and athletic frame. The St. Louis Catholic product was a recent riser in our 2025 State Rankings update, thanks to an impressive State Games performance this past fall. Bordelon notched a couple of hits during gameplay, including a pull-side double, and took quality at-bats throughout the weekend against good arms. He also offers intrigue and upside on the mound with a FB up to 84 mph and aptitude for spin with a sharp near "12-6" shape mid-70's CB.
+ 2026 MIF Ja'Derryian Washington (Barbe HS)
Washington has looked the part of a potential big-time prospect for the Bucs, so far this fall, and is a guy that we can't wait to see more out of. His 6'2" 160 lbs. frame projects and he oozes athleticism to go along with some of the best defensive actions and hands that we've seen in a while, and he'll likely see varsity time at all three infield spots. Offensively, he's made big strides this off-season and that was on full display in a recent Barbe intersquad that we attended, where he got on top of a two-strike FB to punch a single to the opposite field. In his last at-bat, he went down in the zone to get a breaking ball and smoked it to left field. He's a must-see prospect in the state's 2026 class for us this coming spring.
