Lake Charles, LA - Our first open event of the summer was held this past Sunday May 19, 2024 at Barbe High School with our Lake Charles Summer ID.  This event consisted of high school prospects in the 2024-2028 classes.  All players went through a pro-style workout that consisted of running a laser-timed 60 yard dash using Swift Performance, batting practice using Trackman Baseball and Blast Motion Baseball, and defensive evalutaions.  We ended the day with pitchers throwing bullpens with Trackman Baseball, so that they were able to get all of their data and metrics.  Today, we kick-off our post-event coverage of the event with another edition of Quick Hits, which focuses on some of the prospects that caught our eye.  Be sure to follow us, on all of our social media platforms, for continued coverage of the Lake Charles Summer ID!

LAKE CHARLES SUMMER ID STANDOUTS

+ 2026 C/RHP Ty Lamartina (Acadiana HS)

Athletic 6'0" 185 lbs. frame with a strong lower-half.  Lamartina was one of the big winners from Sunday's event, showcasing potential as a two-way prospect.  Defensively, from the crouch, we really liked his receiving and blocking abilities, as well as his quick & clean transfer and strong arm on throw downs to the bag that resulted in a 80 mph positional velocity with pop times of 1.86-1.98.  At the plate, he uses a toe-tap load and stays short & compact to contact, while staying on-plane through extension working through the middle of the field on a line.  On the mound, he's an athletic mover with a compact and clean arm stroke, releasing the ball from a high 3/4 slot.  His FB sat 85-87 mph and he showed really good feel for spin with a 76-78 mph CB that registered spin rates up to 2820 RPM's.  Acadiana always produces tough, hard-nosed, and blue-collar athletes, and Lamartina looks to be another one of those guys cut from that same cloth.

+ 2026 OF Myles Jones (New Iberia Senior HS)

6'3" 170 lbs. long and lean frame with a ton of room to add strength.  This was our first look at the NISH product and it was a good one.  The bat stood out to us and more specifically, it was the movement patters at the plate.  Jones works from an upright stance and uses loose wrists to whip the bat head through the zone that resulted in a 92 mph max exit velocity.  He's also a solid overall athlete that posted a respectable 7.16 laser-timed 60.

+ 2026 INF/RHP Aubrey St. Angelo (Brusly HS)

This was our first look, since the fall, at the 2024 District 6-4A MVP, and he showed up noticeably stronger at 6'0" 175 lbs.  The Brusly product took a "loud" round of BP with several 90 mph + exit velocities with a max of 94 mph.  St. Angelo swings the bat with controlled aggression and intent to do damage, but wasn't just pull-side heavy, as he stayed gap to gap in his approach.  On the mound, he showcased a short & quick arm action, while working his FB to both sides of the plate at 83-85 mph.  His 72-73 mph had short & tight break, and he also flashed a firmer 79-80 mph CH with arm-side sink.

+ 2025 OF/RHP Carsen Hebert (Covenant Christian HS)

5'11" 185 lbs. stocky frame with a strong lower-half.  The Covenant Christian product showed off multiple tools at the event, and finished as the leader in a couple of categories.  A good runner, Hebert recorded an event best 6.78 laser-timed 60 and also showed off a strong arm from the OF at 86 mph, which was good for second best on the day.  At the plate, he displayed quick hands with a heavy pull-side approach that resulted in a 95.5 mph max exit velocity, which was the top at the event.  

+ 2025 RHP Michael Griggs (Catholic BR HS)

The Catholic BR product doubles as a tight end on the gridirion, which isn't surprising with his physical 6'3" 225 lbs. frame.  The Bears will be looking to replace quite a few innings from this past spring with the departures of some key seniors, and Griggs could be one of the guys that fills some of the void.  On the mound, he works at a quicker pace throughout an up-tempo delivery to release the ball from a 2/3 slot.  His FB sat 84-86 mph with some life through the zone, and this was after a full workout before, so it's likely that the velocity ticks up when he's fresh.  Griggs also showed good feel for both his CB & SL with short/tight break and spin rates in the 2400-2560 RPM range.
