The Underclass Trials took place over the summer at Northlake Christian School. The event hosted many of the top underclass talent from around the state in a pro style workout including defensive positional workouts, batting practice and 60-yard dash. To wrap up  event coverage, we will release a position analysis of all in attendance continuing with infielders. 

Underclass Trials: Infielders

Payton Albert 1B / RHP / Vermillion Catholic , LA / 2022 Physical 6-foot-2, 245-pound frame with a larger build. Right-handed hitter hits from a slightly open stance working back to even with a small leg kick and simple hand load into an on plane path with advanced bat speed creating big power potential and an exit velocity of 96 mph. Defensively, worked out at first base where he showed solid footwork and simple actions into a high-¾ release with solid arm speed producing a positional velocity of 78 mph. Ran a 8.94 second 60-yard dash.

Wes Carr SS / 2B / Mandeville, LA / 2024 Athletic 5-foot-10, 150-pound frame with plenty of room to fill out moving forward. Right-handed hitter starts in an athletic, open stance using a knee-to-knee load with a rhythmic toe tap to work back to even with advanced body control. High intent swing with a flat path and advanced bat speed, produced an exit velocity of 84 mph. Athletic defender with quick feet and soft hands. Clean transitions into a loose ¾ release with accuracy at 73 mph across the infield. Advanced athlete, turned in a 7.06 second 60-yard dash.

Aiden Colvin 3B / RHP / Benton, LA / 2022 Average 5-foot-11, 185-pound frame with present strength in build. Right-handed hitter hits from an upright, narrow base with an open stance using a small leg lift to get back to even. Flashes solid bat speed in a steep path creating quality backspin with gap power and an exit velocity of 84 mph. Solid athlete shows quality actions both in the outfield and infield. Does a nice job of charging the baseball in the outfield as he works through it with clean exchanges into a long arm action and a high-¾ release producing a positional velocity of 77 mph from the outfield. Also worked out on the infield where he showed efficient feet and body control with solid actions into a long arm action and a high-¾ release at 77 mph across the infield. Ran an 7.15 second 60-yard dash.

Jackson Cowan 3B / RHP / West Monroe , LA / 2023 Rankings  StateRank: 42 / POS: 4 Physical 6-foot-1, 185-pound frame with solid strength for his age. Left-handed hitter with an upright, even setup. Uses a controlled load to the backside to launch a solid stroke with a slight uphill plane and average bat speed, producing an exit velocity of 85 mph. Worked out defensively on the left side of the infield where he flashed developing actions with solid exchanges into a ¾ release producing a positional velocity of 72 mph. Ran an 7.43 second 60-yard dash.

Tyler Fitch SS / OF / The Dunham School , LA / 2022 Rankings  StateRank: 21 / POS: 4 Wiry  5-foot-10, 150-pound frame with room for projection. Hits from a taller, upright stance using a knee-to-knee load with a simple lift and replace stride. Athletic right-handed swing with twitchy bat speed and developing strength. Produced an exit velocity of 86 mph. Athletic middle infielder with active feet, developing actions, soft hands and clean transfers into a longer arm action and a high-3/4 release posting a positional velocity of 89 mph across the infield. Also turned in a 6.95 second 60-yard dash.

Darcy Franklin SS / OF / St. Michael, LA / 2022 Rankings  StateRank: 67 / POS: 13 Long 6-foot-3, 180-pound frame with long limbs and projection in build. Right-handed hitter hits from a tall, balanced setup, uses a simple, smooth leg-lift load landing balanced and strong. Advanced body control in an on-plane path with advanced bat speed with average present strength, producing an exit velocity of 83 mph.. Can project on the power with the combination of his present build and bat speed, will really start to tap into it as he continues to get stronger.  On the infield, flashed developing actions with average athleticism. Hands and feet work well together with clean exchanges, loose arm action and a ¾ release, checked in with a 81 mph positional velocity. Ran a 7.64 60-yard dash.

Jax Hastings RHP / OF / Northlake Christian, LA / 2022 Rangy 6-foot-1, 165-pound frame with some projection left. Right-handed hitter hits from a wide, balanced stance using a lift and replace stride to create solid bat speed in a slight uphill path, producing and exit velocity of 85 mph. Defensively worked out in the outfield where he showed solid actions into a longer arm action and a ¾ release, posting a positional velocity of 75 mph from the outfield. Ran a 7.76 second 60-yard dash.

Trey Hawsey 1B / LHP / West Monroe, LA / 2024 Physical 6-foot, 200-pound frame with present strength. Left-handed hitter hits from a balanced, slightly open stance using a simple leg lift to start a loose, slightly uphill stroke with advanced bat speed and strength for his age, produced an exit velocity of 89 mph. Defensively, worked out a first base flashing controlled developing actions with a quick arm and accurate throws, posting a positional velocity of 70 mph. Ran a 7.61 second 60-yard dash.

Clayton Hebert RHP / OF / Episcopal School of Acadiana, LA / 2022 Wiry 5-foot-9, 150-pound frame with an athletic build. Left-handed bat starts in an athletic, slightly open stance using a simple reach step to start the swing. Flashed solid bat speed in a developing left-handed stroke that looks to have some projection as he adds strength, produced an exit velocity of 76 mph. Defensively, worked out on the infield showing developing actions and clean exchanges and a ¾ release, producing a positional velocity of 80 mph. Ran a 7.21 second 60-yard dash.

Tate Hess RHP / 1B / Singer, LA / 2023 Rankings  StateRank: 11 / POS: 3 Physical 6-foot-2, 195-pound frame with present strength in build. Right-handed hitter hits from a balanced, slightly open stance using a knee-to-knee stride to start a loose athletic strong with solid bat speed and strength, producing an exit velocity of 83 mph. Defensively, worked out a first base where he flashed advanced actions and presence around the bag. Advanced body control with clean exchanges and a high-¾ release with accuracy at 79 mph. Ran a 7.38 second 60-yard dash.

Aidan Lambert SS / 3B / Catholic (BR), LA / 2022 Rankings  StateRank: 26 / POS: 5 Average 6-foot, 175-pound frame with athleticism in frame. Right-handed hitter hits from a balanced, athletic setup using a simple reach step to engage a strong right-handed stroke with an uphill plane and advanced bat speed, producing and exit velocity of 94 mph. Worked out on the infield flashing developing actions with lots of promise as he progresses, medium arm action into a high release at 79 mph across the infield. Advanced athlete, ran a 6.76 second 60-yard dash.

Lance LeBoeuf SS / 2B / Kinder , LA / 2023 Smaller 5-foot-9, 145-pound frame with athleticism and projection in build. Right-handed hitter hits from a wide, slightly open stance using a toe-tap load to get to even, flashed solid bat speed in an uphill swing with developing strength, producing an exit velocity of 81 mph. Defensively, worked out on the infield where he flashed developing actions with clean exchanges into a high-¾ release, producing a positional velocity of 74 mph. Ran a 7.22 second 60-yard dash.

Brandon Levy RHP / SS / Parkway, LA / 2023 Rankings  StateRank: 9 / POS: 1 OverallRank: 296 / POS: 67 Physical 5-foot-11, 170-pound frame. Right-handed hitter hits from a taller, slightly open stance using a toe-tap load to into a short compact stroke with quality extension. On-plane path with a gap to gap approach and pull side power potential, registered an 88 mph exit velocity. Showed average actions in the outfield, efficient footwork working through the baseball with clean exchanges into a medium arm action and high-¾ slot with real arm strength and carry on throws, producing a positional velocity of 88 mph. During the infield workout, showed average actions, active but under control feet, hands work well and together with clean exchanges and arm strength across, producing an 87 mph positional velocity from shortstop. Solid athlete ran a 7.29 60-yard dash.

Blake Lobell RHP / C / Springfield , LA / 2022 Rankings  StateRank: 37 / POS: 5 Long 6-foot-2, 170-pound frame. Right-handed hitter hits from a tall, slightly open stance with a fairly narrow base using a simple load and moderate reach step to initiate the swing. Flashed athleticism and looseness in a slightly uphill swing with quality bat speed and extension, producing an exit velocity of 89 mph. Long frame folds up well into a wide, balanced setup behind the dish. Takes a small cheat step on throw downs receiving the baseball well with quick transfer into a high-¾ release with quick arm speed and carry on throws, producing an 82 mph from behind the dish. 1.97-2.06 pop time. On the infield showed solid actions with clean exchanges into a clean arm action and big arm strength, posting a positional velocity of 91 mph. Ran a 6.81 second 60-yard dash.

Jonas Louis Jr. OF / 1B / Thomas Jefferson, LA / 2023 Wiry 5-foot-9, 135-pound frame with lots of projection. Left-handed hitter hits from a wide, balanced stance using a simple lift and replace load to start the swing. Flashed solid bat speed for his age with developing strength and a slightly uphill path, producing an exit velocity of 76 mph. Defensively, showed nice outfield actions with smooth actions, clean exchanges into a loose arm action with projectable arm strength while turning in a positional velocity of 70 mph from the outfield. Developing athlete, ran a 7.61 second 60-yard dash.

Sladen Lyles 1B / C / Springfield, LA / 2022 Rankings  StateRank: 72 / POS: 3 Physical 6-foot-2, 215-pound frame with a mature build with present strength. Left-handed hitter hits from a balanced, upright stance with smooth rhythm and a simple, small stride step. Flashed easy bat speed with looseness and advanced strength through contact to produce an exit velocity of 96 mph. Solid defender at first base with average actions and a fairly accurate arm, producing a positional velocity of 75 mph. Ran a 7.45 second 60-yard dash.

Kameron Mangum RHP / SS / North Desoto , LA / 2023 Average 5-foot-10, 175-pound frame with some projection. Left-handed hitter hits from a slightly open stance using a controlled leg lift to start the swing. Maintains balance throughout as he flashes advanced bat speed for his age in a loose, athletic swing with a typical left-handed bat path and adjustability. Produced and exit velocity of 87 mph. On the infield, flashed average actions, advanced body control, soft hands, smooth exchanges and a natural high-¾ release at 77 mph across the diamond. Ran a 7.20 second 60-yard dash.

Reed Maples RHP / 1B / Belle Chasse , LA / 2022 Physical 6-foot-1, 235-pound frame. Right-handed hitter with open stance in upright position. Aggressive path to baseball with plus bat speed and balance throughout the swing. Showed flashes of gap to gap power potential with an exit velocity of 88 mph. At first base showed good feet, soft hands with smooth exchanges and solid footwork around the bag, posted a positional velocity of 73 mph across the infield. Ran an 8.40 second 60-yard dash.

Braden McLin 3B / OF / Doyle, LA / 2022 Athletic 5-foot-11, 165-pound frame with wiry strength. Right handed hitter who was balanced at the plate with an aggressive back side that produced pop. Toe tap on load and quick to the ball. Showed ability to spray to all fields with a balanced approach. Produced and exit velocity of 94 mph. Smooth up the middle with good hands on the infield. Glove tap after fielding ball and over the top arm actions. Worked around baseball well with good footwork. Positional velocity of 81 mph across the infield. 85 mph from the outfield. Ran a 7.05 second 60-yard dash.

Steele Miceli 3B / 1B / Northshore , LA / 2023 Physical 6-foot, 185-pound frame. Right-handed hitter hits from a wide, balanced stance with leg kick in load. Slight bat wrap with an aggressive approach and quick hands with balance and violent intent. Compact stroke with a direct path and gap power. Quick bat with solid athleticism in the swing, produced an exit velocity of 88 mph. Average defender, hands work well with developing footwork. Soft hands, clean exchanges into a ¾ release with solid accuracy at 76 mph across the infield. Ran a 7.80 second 60-yard dash.

Austin Mills SS / 2B / Ascension Episcopal, LA / 2023 Smaller 5-foot-8, 150-pound frame. Switch hitter with an athletic upright stance from both sides. Hands tend to get away from body during up and down leg kick but flashed quick hand speed. On-planed bath path produced line drives to all fields from both sides of the plate and an exit velocity of 77 mph. Showed natural actions on the infield with advanced hands and efficient footwork. Works around baseball well creating good angles into a loose, clean arm action from  ¾ arm slot with true spin and solid carry. Flashed developing arm strength and a positional velocity of 73 mph. Developing athlete, ran a 7.40 second 60-yard dash.

Josh Murray SS / 2B / St. Michael, LA / 2022 Average 5-foot-10, 165-pound frame. Right handed hitter with a slightly open athletic stance with hands in a good trigger point and has a violent and aggressive swing with. Produced average bat speed with developing power with gap to gap approach. Flat path to ball with occasional lift through contact, produced and exit velocity of 90 mph. On the infield, showed athleticism and quick feet up the middle with quality footwork and smooth transitions. Long arm action into a high-¾ release with average carry, produced a positional velocity of 81 mph. Ran a 6.95 second 60-yard dash.

Andrew Prejean RHP / SS / Holy Savior Menard, LA / 2023 Smaller 5-foot-8, 140-pound frame. RIght handed hitter with a slightly open stance. Showed a leg kick with a long stride that produced a flat barrel path to baseball. Showed some lift with developing strength.  Produced and exit velocity of 78 mph. On the infield, shows active feet with bounce, springy actions with natural athletic ability to play up the middle. Compact arm action into a varied release with the ability to throw from multiple slots, posting a positional velocity of 75 mph. Developing athlete, ran a 7.90 second 60-yard dash.

James Reina SS / C / St. Louis , LA / 2023 Rankings  StateRank: 69 / POS: 13 Athletic 5-foot-7, 145-pound frame. Right-handed hitter hits from a balanced, athletic stance using a knee-to-knee load with a medium stride. Flashes average bat speed with developing strength to produce an exit velocity of 78 mph. On the infield, actions are continuing to progress, moves well with athletic feet, solid actions and clean exchanges into a high-¾ release producing a positional velocity of 75 mph. Developing catcher, high setup, solid receiver with quick exchanges into a longer arm action and high-¾ release resulting in a 73 mph positional velocity from behind the dish and a 2.05-2.11 pop time. Quality athlete ran a 6.81 second 60-yard dash.

Benjamin Robichaux 2B / 3B / Catholic(BR), LA / 2022 Rankings  StateRank: 50 / POS: 3 Physical 5-foot-7, 165-pound frame. Left handed hitter with compact stance and quick swing. Leg kick with short stride and aggressive and fast hands with some upward bat tilt and developing pop. Produced and exit velocity of 83 mph. Positional velocity of 82 mph. Over the top arm slot with quick hands. Showed smooth actions with above average accuracy to target with developing footwork. Ran a 7.21 second 60-yard dash.

Caleb Ross 3B / RHP / West Monroe, LA / 2022 Rankings  StateRank: 65 / POS: 5 Physical 5-foot-11, 170-pound frame. Right handed hitter with an athletic stance that leads to short strides during approach. Line drive bath path with tendency to upward lift. Balanced throughout set up with tendency to show plus pop to pull side. Produced and exit velocity of 89 mph. Positional velocity of 82 mph with natural hands but developing footwork. Over the top arm action with some ¾ arm slot action as well. Accurate throws with carry. Ran a 7.26 second 60-yard dash.

Parker Sellers SS / 2B / West Monroe , LA / 2022 Physical 5-foot-11, 175-pound frame. Right handed hitter with a upright stance and up and down leg kick. Produced good back side strength in swing with some lift tendencies. Showed gap to gap pop and a fast bat and plus pull power. Produced and exit velocity of 85 mph. Positional velocity of 77 mph with natural feel and plus hands. Developing footspeed and footwork with over the top arm action. Showed good range with accurate throws.. Ran a 7.22 second 60-yard dash.

Sully Stringer 1B / OF / Brother Martin, LA / 2022 Rankings  StateRank: 28 / POS: 2 Physical 6-foot-2, 195-pound frame. Right-handed hitter, hits from a balanced, athletic stance. Shifty, lift-and-replace stride landing strong with a solid base. Aggressive hitter with an on-plane path and advanced bat speed with quality extension through contact, produced and exit velocity of 89 mph. Average defender at first base. Moves well with solid actions and really good around the bag, turned in a positional velocity of 73 mph. Solid average athlete, ran a 7.11 second 60-yard dash.

Brennan Surles OF / 2B / Neville, LA / 2022 Physical 5-foot-10, 165-pound frame. Right handed hitter with slight crouch and toe touch in load. Explodes off back side through baseball with line drive bat path with some lift. Showed potential gap to gap power with fast bat. Produced and exit velocity of 89 mph. Positional velocity of 83 mph across the infield. 85 mph from the outfield. Natural athlete with developing footwork on the infield and an over the top arm slot from both the outfield and infield. Smooth hands and transitions on the infield and fast arm actions in the outfield. Ran a 6.81 second 60-yard dash.

Kyle Thezan SS / 2B / Northlake Christian, LA / 2022 Wiry 5-foot-8, 145-pound frame. Right-handed hitter hits from a balanced, even stance with an athletic setup. Toe-tap load with solid rhythm into a flat barreled stroke with solid bat speed. Pull side approach that can get a bit shouldery and rotational at times, causing the barrel to spin off at contact. Syncs up at times with solid strength at contact, produced an exit velocity of 86 mph. Solid infield defender with developing actions, soft hands that work together and plays through the baseball with clean exchanges. Medium arm action into a high-¾ release with solid arm speed, posted a positional velocity of 72 mph. Solid athlete, ran a 7.09 second 60-yard dash.

John Alex Walsh RHP / 3B / Alexandria, LA / 2023 Rankings  StateRank: 10 / POS: 2 OverallRank: 298 / POS: 68 Physical 6-foot-1, 180-pound frame that has started to fill out. Right-handed hitter stands tall in the box using a knee-to-knee leg lift to create momentum in the swing. Lands firm with balance and strength at contact with advanced bat speed through the zone, registered an exit velocity of 87 mph. Solid defender in the outfield, moves well working through the baseball with clean exchanges into a compact arm action and high-¾ release with big arm strength turning in positional velocity of 90 mph. Also, worked out on the infield where he flashed average actions and footwork, with improved body control, clean exchanges into an easy 3/4 release with carry and accuracy. Turned in a positional velocity of 80 mph. Strong athlete turned in a 6.90 60-yard dash.
