Scouting Report
On the mound, Polk showed a high ¾ slot with very clean mechanics. He does a nice job of keeping the ball down in the zone and the FB showed late life and was up to 84 mph with spin rates in the mid 2000’s. The change up showed real deception out of the hand and is a plus offspeed pitch. Slightly open, tall stance that really creates some “whippiness” with the barrel. He showed a mostly pull side approach with a slightly tilted swing path. Very clean catch and throw skills and nice arm strength. He consistently put throws on the 2B bad and was very consistent with his pop times (1.94- 1.98). Like the versatility in this 2022 grad.
Polk took confident at-bats all weekend for the Triton Rays 2022 team, and is not scared at the plate. The right-handed hitter has a relaxed approach with an athletic stroke that includes some quickness to the hands. Exhibiting some proportional strength throughout a projectable, 6-foot-2, 180-pound frame, Polk shows signs of making a big jump in the near future.
Does a nice job of creating explosion at the plate from an open stance and a leg kick approach which allows him to get timed up with the swing. Showed a middle of the field approach with some juice. Hands showed some quick twitch through the zone. Fluid actions behind the plate with nice flexibility in the hips and was set low. Showed nice athleticism. Had no trouble receiving the pitch down in the zone and looked very comfortable blocking balls in the dirt. The transfer is quick and he does a nice job of getting momentum moving toward the 2B bag. A definite ‘22 to follow.
10.28.18 Another Gulf Shores 2022 RHP with loose arm action and the potential to add weight and strength to his solid mechanics. Showed confidence in all 3 of his pitches with a FB 73 -76 and topping at 77 mph with the ability to really locate to his glove side. His breaking ball was 63-65 with 12/6 action and nice spin. His changeup showed deception and can keep hitters off balanc
Pop times were in the 2.2’s but those will only get better as he physically matures. Solid skill set behind the plate with a low set up and solid feet. Short arm action with a quick transfer that will develop with arm strength. Athletic catcher that can run. Showed a slight tilt in his swing path from a slightly open stance and good rhythm in his hands at time of load. Showed a pull approach in BP and had some productive at bats during the game. A hustle player that got after it!
