Uncommitted Spotlight - 2023 Riley Marcotte
December 18, 2020
Louisiana's 2023 Class is one that is full of talent at every position. If you want to pick a spot where the group is super loaded; it would be the Left Handed Pitchers. Kade Anderson, Jake Brown, and J.C. Vanek are all committed to Louisiana State University, and Jaxson Burch of Denham Springs H.S. is committed to Oklahoma State University. We can go ahead and throw 2023 LHP Riley Marcotte (Loreauville HS) into that group of names, as we focus on him in today's edition of "Uncommitted Spotlight". Marcotte had a stellar 3 inning performance at the 2020 Future Games. Deceptive delivery, hides the baseball well, which makes his 82-86 mph FB play up. Maintained his arm speed and slot while mixing in his CH that sat 71-74 mph. Also, showed advanced feel for spinning his 70-72 mph CB that had good shape and depth. Again, the 2023 class has a stable of LHP's, all of whom, are very good in their own right. Do not be surprised this spring, when you start to hear Riley Marcotte's name more and more, as we look for him to build on his outstanding 2020 Future Games performance.
Scouting Report
Long, projectable 6-foot-1, 165-pound frame. Athletic left-hander that's easy to like. Works from the third base side of the rubber, staying on-line with an athletic delivery. Medium arm action, continuous arm circle into a high-3/4 slot with looseness and quick arm speed. Hides the baseball well during takeaway making it tough to pick up until release. Mostly sat 82-85 mph while touching 86 on multiple occasions. Fastball plays up, seems to get on hitters. Mixes well with a 70-72 mph breaking ball and a 71-74 mph changeup. Both show promise with advanced feel. Breaking ball spins right with shape and depth. Change has deception from a consistent slot while maintaining arm speed. Worked 3 innings in a dominant outing. Will be a fast riser in the 2023 class.
