Uncommitted Fall Follows: 2024 Class

Alex Armand
Louisiana Scouting Director

Summer has ended and school is back in session in the state of Louisiana, which means that it's time for us to update our state rankings for each class.  Last week, we kicked things off with the 2024 class, which saw a new #1 prospect and an expansion of the list to 180 prospects in total.  As a follow-up to last week's state rankings update, we've decided to provide a list below of the Top 5 uncommitted prospects in Louisiana's 2024 class.  Each of these prospects present their own unique talents and abilities that will surely help a program at the next level.  Be sure to continue to follow us, across all of our social media platforms, as we continue to update our state rankings for each class, over the next couple of weeks.

TOP 5 UNCOMMITTED FOLLOWS (2024 CLASS)

1. 2024 RHP William Schmidt (Catholic BR HS)

Projectable 6'4" 185 lbs. frame with long limbs and plenty of room to continue to add strength.  The state's top ranked player in the 2024 class and #14 nationally is back on the open market.  Schmidt's rise to the top of the class has been nothing short of sensational and he only continued to increase his stock more this summer.  The Catholic BR product routinely reached the mid-90's with his fastball and flashed a future above average change up, but it's his devastating high spin-rate breaking ball that has college programs and MLB organizations salivating, as the pitch routinely gets to 3,000 plus RPM's.

2. 2024 OF Shane Lee (Destrehan HS)

Athletic 5'10" 200 lbs. frame with a physical lower-half.  The Destrehan HS product will undoubtedly play at the next level, but the big question will be in which sport.  Lee is a standout running back for the Wildcats, as he led Destrehan to a state title last spring and already has Division I football offers on the table.  On the diamond, however, he offers a lot as well, as Lee was an All-District and All-State performer last spring, after hitting .375 with 7 HR and 16 2B, while also driving in 37 runs and swiping 25 bases.  Only time will tell which route Lee will ultimately choose, and there's a real possibility that a college program will let him do both.

3. 2024 RHP/OF Cole Connor (University Lab HS)

Long, lean, and athletic at 6'1" 175 lbs.  We've seen Connor plenty over the last 12 months at various events and we'll get to see him again at our State Games later this fall.  The University HS product is an athletic prospect and a really good runner, as he's been clocked as low as 6.72 in a laser-timed 60, and he's also got a well above average from the outfield at 92 mph.  Connor also offers a lot of upside on the mound.  He's an athletic mover down the slope with a loose arm action and a heavy two-seam fastball up to 90 mph, to go along with a future above average slider and a quality change-up.

4. 2024 SS Wes Carr (Mandeville HS)

Athletic 5'11" 180 lbs. frame.  The Mandeville HS product attended the Jr. Future Games in 2020 and was a part of our 2022 Future Games team.  Carr is a versatile infielder, who has seen time at second base and third base during his high school career, and he should slide over to the shortstop position this coming spring.  He's got a simple and repeatable swing and makes his living off of low/hard contact and was named a 1st Team All-District Infielder as a Junior this past season.

5. 2024 RHP Jace Duhon (South Beauregard HS)

6'3" 150 lbs. projectable frame with a ton of room to add strength.  Duhon has been the ace of the Golden Knights staff for the last two seasons and led South Beauregard to the state tournament last spring, after finishing the year with a 10-3 record and 0.95 ERA, to go along with a whopping 134 K's to only 16 BB.  We got to see Duhon in the semifinals of the state tournament, where he ran his fastball up to 86 mph and sat mostly 82-85 mph.  He also flashed a big mid-60's breaking ball with good shape that should sharpen up as he gets stronger.  Duhon will also graduate at 17 years old, which likely means that there's a lot left in the tank.
