The Top Prospect Games took place over the summer at Northlake Christian School. The event hosted several of the top players from around the state in a pro style workout including defensive positional workouts, batting practice and 60-yard dash. The event finished up with a game where our staff was able to take in live competitive action. To wrap up  event coverage, we will release a position analysis of all in attendance continuing today with infielders. 

Top Prospect Games: Infielders

Ryan Albritton 3B / 2B / Riverfield Academy, LA / 2021 Rankings  StateRank: 69 / POS: 4 Physical 5-foot-11, 180-pound frame with present strength in build. Right-handed hitter hits from an upright position using a moderate leg kick to initiate the swing, lands strong with a solid lower half. Takes a physical pass with a little effort to the stroke, slightly uphill path with average bat speed and pull side power potential, posted a 98 mph exit velocity on TrackMan. Solid defender, profiles at a corner infield position with average actions. Feet work well showing solid range and the ability to play through ground balls at third base. Handled the baseball well with clean exchanges into a high-¾ release with solid carry at 83 mph. Ran a 7.47 60-yard dash.

Cason Clemons SS / 2B / Glenbrook, LA / 2023 Medium 5-foot-9, 148-pound maturing frame with room to add strength. Right-handed hitter hits from a balanced stance with hand high above the back shoulder. Starts the swing with a toe tap load landing in a solid hitting position. Flashes a developing swing with solid bat speed and strength at contact, posting an 84 mph exit velocity. Worked out at shortstop where he flashed average actions, developing footwork with clean ball handling skills. Medium arm action with a high-¾ release flashing 80 mph arm strength across the infield. Ran a 7.35 60-yard dash.

Grant Comeaux 3B / 1B / Barbe , LA / 2022 Projectable 6-foot-1, 185 pound frame with room to continue filling out. Right-handed hitter hits from a tall, open stance. Uses a small leg lift to gather and get back to even with body control and balance. The swing flashes average bat speed that’s well leveraged creating strength at contact, producing a 90 mph exit velocity. Defensively, worked out on the infield where he flashed solid actions. Plays low with average athleticism and footwork working through the baseball with soft hands and clean exchanges. Medium arm action with a high-¾ release at 78 mph across the infield. Profiles at a corner, likely third base. Ran a 7.28 60-yard dash.

Eddie Dema SS / 2B / Pope John Paul II, LA / 2021 Average 5-foot-10, 165-pound frame with room to add strength. Right-handed hitter starts in a wider, balanced stance using a medium stride to start the swing. Flashed solid bat speed in a simple swing with a downhill to even path creating an exit velocity of 84 mph. Worked out on the infield where he showed active feet working high to low on ground balls. Plays through hops ok into a medium arm circle and a ¾ release with 74 mph arm strength across the infield. Solid athlete ran a 7.19 60-yard dash.

Brennan Duhe SS / RHP / Lutcher, LA / 2021 Rankings  StateRank: 88 / POS: 20 Athletic 5-foot-10, 163-pound frame with room for added strength. Right-handed hitter has a relaxed, tall stance. Simple leg lift with a hang and hover stride. Will flash solid average bat speed with some looseness in hands, high finish after solid extension through contact. Turned in an exit velocity of 92 mph. On the infield, uses active feet to work through ground balls. Handles the baseball well with soft hands and clean exchange into a ¾ arm slot with average carry and accuracy at 87 mph. Also, worked out in  the outfield with athletic actions, clean transfers and a ¾ release producing an 86 mph outfield velocity. Average runner, ran a 7.00 60-yard dash.

Jonathan Elbourne 3B / C / Silliman Institute, LA / 2022 Physical 6-foot-1, 210-pound frame with present strength throughout. Right-handed hitter with a wide stance, partially loaded into the back hip with hands around the back shoulder. No stride load, sinking into back side with simple, arm bar hand load. Flashes average bat speed in a compact swing with solid strength at contact, producing an 88 mph exit velocity. On the infield, profiles at a corner with developing footwork, early glove presentation with solid actions, clean exchanges into a ¾ slot at 78 mph across the infield. Ran a 7.80 60-yard dash.

Brandon Franks 2B / RHP / Barbe, LA / 2022 Athletic 5-foot-8, 150-frame. Smaller with athletic build. Right-handed hitter hits from a crouched, balanced setup with good rhythm in hands, loads heavy into backside with a small leg lift with a lift and replace stride. Showed solid bat speed in a compact stroke with a slightly uphill, on plane path. Line drive type hitter with gap to gap approach, posted an exit velocity of 86 mph on TrackMan. Defensively, showed active feet on the infield working through the baseball with average actions. Hands work well with softness and synced up with feet. Clean exchanges with a short compact arm action and a high-3/4 release at 78 mph across the infield. Profiles at 2B with a chance to play short as he adds strength. Solid athlete, ran a 7.18 60-yard dash.

Hunter Harrell SS / RHP / Silliman, LA / 2021 Long, rangy 6-foot-1, 160-pound frame with room to add strength. Right-handed hitter that hits from a tall, wider stance. No stride load as loading hands to around the back shoulder. Slightly uphill path with solid bat speed and length in path. Line drive type hitter with a gap to gap approach; posting an exit velocity of 84 mph. Solid infielder that worked through balls well with active footwork and average hands.. Clean, midline exchanges into short 3/4 release producing an infield positional velocity of 80 mph across the infield. Solid athlete, ran a 7.33 60-yard dash.

Baylor Leonard 2B / RHP / Ascension Catholic, LA / 2021 Rankings  StateRank: 51 / POS: 2 Athletic 6-foot-1, 170-pound frame with room to add strength. Right-handed hitter that hits from a tall, open stance using a leg kick to get to even, landing firm against a strong front side. Small hand load to around the back shoulder slotting the barrel next to the ear. Rotational swing with an on-plane path with average bat speed and length through contact. Wants to elevate with a pull side approach; posting an exit velocity of 87 mph. Athletic defender with bounce. Good feet that work through balls with active footwork while showing soft hands with clean, midline exchanges into medium arm action and high-3/4 release with effort producing an infield positional velocity of 90 mph across the infield. Above average athlete, ran a 6.89 60-yard dash.

Cade Lyons SS / RHP / Doyle, LA / 2021 Rankings  StateRank: 103 / POS: 21 Athletic 5-foot-11, 175-pound frame with present strength in build. Right-handed hitter that hits from a tall, slightly open stance using a short, quick stride step to get to even, landing balanced. Minimal lower half engagement with a small hand load into a slightly rotational swing with an uphill path with solid bat speed. Mostly pull side hitter with real strength at contact; turned in an exit velocity of 93 mph. Athletic defender in the outfield. Works through the baseball with active footwork, securing the baseball with clean exchanges into compact arm stroke and high-3/4 release producing an outfield positional velocity of 93 mph from right field. Also worked out on the infield where he flashed active feet with average actions and clean exchanges into a high-¾ slot with carry at 88 mph across the infield. Above average athlete, ran a 6.87 60-yard dash.

Adam Melancon SS / RHP / St. Michael, LA / 2021 Rankings  StateRank: 142 / POS: 30 Smaller 5-foot-6, 134-pound frame. Right-handed hitter hits from a wide even stance. Moderate, high tempo leg kick landing soft on front foot, loading hands back to create separation and into a launch position. Rotational swing with minimal lower half usage creating a steep path with solid bat speed. Middle of the field approach creating backspin line drives and producing an exit velocity of 83 mph. Solid defender on the infield, plays low to the ground with short footwork working around the baseball to play through hops towards first base. Medium arm swing with solid arm speed from a high-¾ release at 76 mph across the infield. Average runner turned in a 7.12 60-yard dash time.

Mason Modica 1B / Dunham, LA / 2021 Rankings  StateRank: 135 / POS: 8 Physical 6-foot-0, 200-pound frame with present strength in build. Right handed hitter hits from a balanced, even setup, loads into backside with a slight shift using a small stride step to control his forward movement landing soft on front foot. Simple hand load into an efficient stroke with advanced bat speed and pure strength through contact. slightly uphill path with real juice and high-end power potential in a swing that registered a 96 mph exit velocity on TrackMan. At first base, showed solid footwork and actions with an accurate arm, registering 74 mph. Ran a 7.51 60-yard dash.

Ethan Mack SS / OF / Jennings, LA / 2021 Rankings  StateRank: 126 / POS: 25 Physical and athletic right 5-foot-9 180 pound frame. Right handed hitter who hits from a slightly crouched and open stance. Lower half works well with an aggressive but balanced approach. Fast bat whip through the zone with good power to pull side. Barrel is quick to zone and has fly ball tendencies with an uphill path. Exit velo of 97 mph. Works through baseball well on the infield with an over the top accurate arm slot. Active feet with clean exchanges and developing arm strength at 83 mph across the infield. Ran a 7.12 60-yard dash.

Ethan Menard C / 3B / Notre Dame, LA / 2021 Rankings  StateRank: 56 / POS: 6 Physical 6-foot-0, 190-pound frame with present strength in build. Right handed hitter hits from a balanced, slightly open stance using a high leg kick to create momentum and to get to even landing soft on front foot. Lays barrel down slightly to get on plane before flashing solid average bat speed on a physical pass with a slightly uphill path. Flashed big time juice and high-end power potential in a swing that registered a 98 mph exit velocity on TrackMan. On the infield, showed solid footwork and fringy actions with big arm strength, registering 88 mph across the infield. Behind the dish, works from a balanced athletic setup. Showed above average receiving skills with clean transfers and advanced footwork. Short compact arm action into a high-¾ release at 82 mph with a pop time of 1.97-2.03. Ran a 7.40 60-yard dash.

Jack Parks 1B / 3B / Cedar Creek, LA / 2021 Rankings  StateRank: 102 / POS: 3 Physical 6-foot-3, 210-pound frame with present strength. Right-handed hitter hits from wide, balanced stance using a no stride load. Gap to gap approach with advanced bat speed and quality extension through contact flashing big power potential in an on path stroke, producing an exit velocity of 95 mph. Solid average defender at first base with solid actions, clean transfers and solid footwork. Longer arm action into a high-3/4 release producing an infield velocity of 83 mph. Turned in a 7.36 60-yard dash.

Hunter Ponson RHP / 3B / Parkview Baptist, LA / 2021 Rankings  StateRank: 39 / POS: 8 Tall, athletic, lean 6-foot-3, 195 pound frame. Left-handed hitter, hits from an upright, even stance, using a modified leg lift to get into his back side. Lands balanced and light on the front foot into a low effort, easy left-handed stroke with above average bat speed and strength at contact, present pull-side power and an exit velocity of 96 mph. Defensively, worked out on the infield where he flashed promising potential. Quiet, simple footwork, plays high working down into a sound fielding position working through ground balls with fluidity with soft hands and smooth exchanges creating momentum towards first base. Clean, whippy high-¾ release with accuracy and carry across the infield at 89 mph. Average runner, turned in a 7.18 60-yard dash.

Nick Tarantino LHP / 1B / Northlake Christian, LA / 2021 Enter Analysis HerePhysical 6-foot-1, 190-pound frame. Right-handed hitter hits from wide, even stance using a leg lift to load onto backside and create shoulder tilt. Showed solid bat speed in a slightly uphill path with solid strength posting an exit velocity of 81 mph. Defensively, worked out a first base where he displayed clean actions and efficient footwork. Above average defender at first with a loose arm action from high slot, posting a positional velocity of 76 mph. Ran a 7.69 60-yard dash.

Caleb Travis LHP / Silliman, LA / 2022 Strong 6-foot-2, 185-pound frame. Left-handed hitter hitting from an even, wide stance with a no stride load while maintaining balance and getting hands into a solid hitting position. Flashed average bat speed in an on-plane swing with a line drive approach and average strength. Big frame and bat speed create some pull side power potential and produced an exit velocity of 86 mph. Defensively, worked out at first base flashing developing footwork and actions with clean exchanges into a longer arm path and a high-¾ release, turned in a 74 mph positional velocity. Ran a 7.94 60-yard dash.

Brier Williamson 1B / 3B / RiverField, LA / 2021 Rankings  StateRank: 120 / POS: 4 Strong 6-foot-2, 195-pound frame. Right-handed hitter hits from a balanced, even stance, using a simple toe-tap load with a small stride step. Flashes an on-plane path with quality bat speed, strength at contact and pull side power potential with an exit velocity of 87 mph. Defensively, worked out at both corner infield positions with solid actions and arm strength. Profiles at first base where he moved around well with clean actions, efficient footwork and looks to be more comfortable. Solid arm strength, posted a 81 mph positional velocity. Turned in a 7.44 60-yard dash time.
