The Five - Names to Know (Louisiana Preseason I.D.)

Alex Armand
Louisiana Scouting Director

2021 is officially here and we couldn't be more excited to kick the new year off.  2020, despite all of its ups and downs, was a great year and we are looking forward to building off of that momentum.  Our Louisiana Preseason I.D. is going to kick things off for us this Saturday, January 9th, 2021, at the Live Oak High School Baseball field.  Much like the All-State Games, this event looks to be a very good one, with top prospects, across all classes, looking to make their name.  Today, we take a closer look at five prospects to keep an eye on this weekend.

2022 C Caleb Webb (Walker HS):  The 2022 backstop from Walker HS has seen his stock steadily rise, after putting up a great summer and having an outstanding showing at the Louisiana All-State Games.  Built from the ground up, with a strong lower half; Webb stays in his legs and behind the baseball to produce accurate throws to each base.  Posted a 75 mph positional velocity with a 1.90-2.02 pop time.  Received well during the game portion and blocked multiple pitches in the dirt, showing his tough, hard-nosed style of play.  Physical, RHH that uses his lower half to consistently square up baseballs.  Produced a max exit velocity of 95 mph.

2023 1B Peyton Woods (Doyle HS):  Athletic and physical, 5'11" 180 lbs. frame.  LHH begins in a tall, open stance.  Rhythm in his hands, working from high to low.  Uses a leg kick to get back to center.  Stays behind the ball well.  Uphill bat path with good extension.  Max exit velocity of 85 mph.  Solid defender that showed soft hands, athletic footwork through the baseball.  Moved well laterally as well.  Throws had backspin and carry that resulted in an 80 mph positional velocity.  Posted a 7.19 in the 60 as well.

2023 MIF Matthew Keller (Zachary HS):  "Throwback" style of player.  Athletic 5'6" 150 lbs. frame.  RHH begins in an athletic, balanced, slightly open set-up.  Quiet and simple load and stride allow him to repeat his swing well.  Stays inside of the baseball with a flat bath trying to work balls to the middle of the field.  Max exit velocity of 83 mph.  Solid defender up the middle.  Soft hands, athletic footwork, releasing the ball into a 3/4 arm slot that produced a positional velocity of 78 mph.  Made a spectacular diving play to his forehand during the INF portion of the All-State Games.  Posted a 7.56 in the 60.

2022 OF Crawford Courville (Barbe HS):  Physical and athletic, 6'2" 180 lbs. frame.  2020 Future Games Louisiana team member.  Really good defender in the OF.  Made a great diving catch on a line drive hit right at him, while playing CF during the All-State Games.  Athletic footwork moving through the baseball, releasing the ball into a high 3/4 arm slot that produced a positional velocity of 86 mph.  RHH begins in a tall, slightly open stance.  Gap to gap hitter who does a good job of staying inside of the baseball.  Max exit velocity of 90 mph.  Really good runner as well who posted a 6.60 in the 60.

2023 RHP/1B Konnor Graham (Hammond HS):  Ultra-projectable, 6'4" 190 lbs. frame with plenty of room to add strength.  Graham is a high ceiling RHP with a clean arm action and athletic delivery.  FB sits 82-84 mph.  Works a three pitch mix and consistently lands secondary pitches for strikes.  Offensively, the RHH uses a balanced, slightly wide stance.  Simple load and stride.  Shows present pull side power with a max exit velocity of 92 mph.  Posted a 7.36 in the 60.
