Texas Limited Series: Day Four Scout Notes
July 5, 2018
HOUSTON, TX - The lineup for the Texas Stix continued to rack up hits on Sunday morning to finish off the tournament. 2020 OF Robert Antonetti (Grapevine HS) was en fuego all weekend, and collected two more extra base hits to add to his total. In his first AB, the left-handed hitter turned on a two-strike curveball down the right field line for a double. Later in the game, he scorched a line drive double to right field that one-hopped the wall. 2020 OF/3B Garrison Rice (Hebron HS) added more offense with a single down the left field line. Rice has the present arm strength and athleticism to play multiple positions. 2020 SS Cade Merka (Argyle HS) raised his stock significantly over the three day tournament, collecting multiple hits and playing a solid shortstop. Merka will also be in attendance next month at the PBR Future Games in Indianapolis, IN. Performance Baseball out of East Texas has a solid club, with quality athletes all over the field. 2020 OF Peyton Lewis (Parkway HS, LA) has a strong, athletic frame at 6-foot-2, 180-pounds, can cover ground in centerfield, and made a lot of plays look easy this weekend. The right-handed hitter. The right-handed hitter starts from a tall, slightly open stance, has strong hands and does a nice job of using the whole field. He drove in a run on a sac fly to right field and doubled in his second at bat to left. 2020 RHP Jonathan Ramsey (Elysian Fields HS) took the mound for the second time of the weekend. The right-hander works from a high slot with a clean arm stroke. His fastball was 84-86, and he showed feel for his curveball at 71-73 mph with good downer 11/5 action. 2019 Mackenson Bobo (Hallsville HS) has a really good idea of what he is doing on the mound. Working from a ¾ slot, Bobo has great command of his three pitch mix. His fastball has arm side run and sink and started out at 83-85, then climbed to 86-87. His slider has 10/4 shape at 71-73, and he also shows feel for a changeup at 78 mph. Dallas Tigers Dominic Johnson, OF, Edmond Santa Fe HS (OK), 2020 Texas Twelve Brad Rudis, RHP, Madisonville HS, 2021 Connor Bartlett, RHP, Strake Jesuit HS, 2021 Luke Harrison, LHP, Lutheran South, 2021 Ty Sexton, RHP, Lake Creek HS, 2021 + 2021 CF Bryce Jones can really move, the right-handed hitter ran a 4.11 home to first on a rollover ground ball to short. Late in the game, he stroked a base clearing triple to left-centerfield late in the game to bring the Twelve within one run of tying it up. Hunter Pence Baseball - Calhoun brings a ton of energy to the yard every day, and the lineup is competitive. They can put up runs and have multiple players for college recruiters to see. We highlighted several players in the previous days. Here are some others that stood out on Sunday. Ethan Campos, RHP/3B, Cypress Lakes HS, 2020 Clayton Dean, IF, Cypress Christian HS, 2020 Jacob Davis, RHP, Klein HS, 2020
Johnson has an athletic, fast-twitch, muscular frame at 5-foot-10, 180-pounds. The right-handed hitter has quick hands at the plate with pop in the bat. Starting from a wide base, Johnson delivers the barrel with authority. Collected his share of knocks this weekend, and flew out on the barrel multiple times. There is natural lift and the ability to drive the ball. Long stride runner that gets to full speed quickly. Look for Johnson to be an impact player at Oklahoma State.
6-foot, 170-pound frame with strength throughout. Working from a high-¾ slot, with a long, loose arm stroke and polished delivery, all three pitches come out of the same window. His fastball has good arm side run at 82-84, topping out once at 85. Shows great feel for a 10/4 breaking ball with tight spin and good depth at 71-74 mph. Changeup was 73-76 mph.
6-foot-2, 160-pound, wiry frame. The right-hander works from a high slot with a loose, quick arm swing that should provide for added velocity in the near future. His fastball has good downward tilt at 81-83 mph, with slight arm side depth. Slider is a solid pitch with short 11/5 break at 73 mph. Also mixes in a 73 mph changeup. Pumped strikes for the most part and worked out of two james with multiple runners on base without allowing a run.
Harrison has a wiry, long-limbed frame at 6-foot-1, 155-pounds. The left-hander creates some angle on his fastball at 81-83 mph, and throws a 71-73 mph curveball with 1/7 shape. He was on the side of the first couple that he threw, but managed to throw one that had sharp bite. Also flashed a changeup at 76 mph. Once he starts to fill out his frame and the delivery gets synced up with added strength, look for him to repeat more consistently and for the stuff to make a jump.
At 6-foot-4, 180-pounds, Sexton has an already high ceiling with his projectable frame. The right-hander works from a high-¾ slot with an elbow dominant arm stroke and some effort at the end of his delivery. His fastball sat 85-86 in his first inning of work with good downward tilt and scattered command. Spun a 12/6 curveball at 65-69.
Campos has a projectable, long-limbed, athletic frame at 6-foot-2, 165-pounds. The right-handed hitter collected three knocks on Sunday, the first was a screamer right past the pitcher to centerfield for an RBI. The next two were singles through the right side. Campos also made a couple of nice plays at third base.
5-foot-11, 180-pounds. Dean put together a solid tournament and is an all-around ball player. The right-handed hitter singled in his first at-bat, then hammered a double to deep left field with two strikes. Dean played second base most of the weekend, but did slide over to third base on Sunday for a couple innings.
At 6-foot-3, 195-pounds, Davis has a strong, projectable pitchers frame. Came out of the pen to throw an inning of relief. Working from a high slot, his fastball was 81-83, topping out at 84. Spun a 71 mph curveball.
