The 2019 Louisiana high school season officially kicks off today, as teams around the state begin the official 2019 season. Baseball season in Louisiana is virtually in full swing, as the college schedule began this weekend, so the time is here for the Prep Baseball Report Louisiana staff to release its high school Preseason Power 25 team rankings.

In the coming days, our scouting staff will be out and about scouting high school games across the state. The Power 25 team rankings will be updated on a weekly basis, and available for PBR+, ProspectPLUS, and ScoutPLUS subscribers.

The Barbe Bucs check in as the No. 1 team in the preseason Power 25, as the state’s premier powerhouse program will once again be loaded with high-end talent. Coach Cecchini is a Louisiana coaching legend, and has turned the Barbe program into one of the best in the country. The Bucs will return six everyday players and six pitchers in 2019, and have numerous college commits all over the field. Key returning standouts for the Bucs include: South Alabama recruit, 2019 OF Carter Quinn, LSU-Eunice recruit, 2019 OF Bryce LaRocca, Louisiana State recruit, 2020 OF/LHP Brody Drost, Mississippi State recruit, 2020 SS Davis Meche, Mississippi State recruit, 2021 RHP Jack Walker, McNeese State recruit, 2019 RHP Isaac Duplechein, and Tulane recruit, 2019 RHP/OF Damon Fountain.

District 2-5A claims the top two spots in the 2019 Preseason Power 25, as Coach Chad Hebert and the Sam Houston Broncos check in at No. 2. After collecting 33 wins in a wildly successful 2018 season, the Broncos will once again be loaded with a talented and experienced roster. In all the Broncos return seven everyday starters and five pitchers. The strength of the roster will certainly be up the middle, as they return three high-level defenders there in Texas recruit, 2019 C Silas Ardoin, Nicholls State recruit, 2019 SS Hunter Gotreaux, and Louisiana Tech recruit, 2019 OF Braden Duhon. On the mound, McNeese State recruit, 2019 RHP Cameron Meeks will lead the way, as the 6-foot-3, 185-pounder has been running his fastball into the low-90s.

Checking in at No. 3 in the preseason Power 25, Coach Jacob Fisher and the Zachary Broncos should once again be one of the premier clubs in the state. The Broncos were dominant throughout much of the 2018 season, finishing with a 35-4 overall record. They return five everyday starters, and three pitchers in 2019. The strength of the Broncos should once again be on defense, as Louisiana State recruits, 2019 C Alex Milazzo and 2019 SS Collier Cranford are arguably the top defenders in the state at their respective positions. On the mound, the Broncos will be led by Future Games participant, 2020 RHP Tanner Hall and LSU-Eunice recruit, 2019 LHP Zack Farr.

Coach Brad Bass and the Catholic(BR) Bears check-in at No. 4 in the preseason list, as one of the premier programs in the state looks to once again be strong heading into 2019. The Bears return five everyday starters and three pitchers from a team that finished the 2018 season 27-9. Offensively the Bears will be led by 2020 IF/OF Zach Ordeneaux, 2020 SS Jakob Wax, and Future Games participants, 2021 OF Mason Zambo and 2020 C Matthew Lee. On the mound they return quality arms in: Louisiana-Monroe recruit, 2019 RHP Nicholas Judice, 2019 RHP Brock Perry, and Future Games participant, 2020 RHP Luke McGiboney.

No. 5 University Lab

Coach Justin Morgan has built the University Lab program into a consistent winner, as the Cubs have been consistently pumping out high-level talent the last few years. The Cubs finished the 2018 season with a record of 28-5, and return several key contributors for 2019. Offensively, they will be led by Southeastern Louisiana recruit, 2019 3B Jacob Burke, Louisiana State recruit, 2020 SS Will Safford, 2020 C Derrek Lathon, and 2021 OF Brock Slaton. Louisiana-Lafayette recruit, 2020 LHP Dylan Carmouche returns for the Bears on the mound to give them a hard throwing 6-foot-5 left-hander at the top of the rotation.
