Yesterday, Sunday, September 11th, Prep Baseball Report was on hand at Tulane University to see the NOLA Baseball Club workout.
Below are a few quick hits on players that stood out from the event.
+ Brandon Davis, INF, John Curtis HS(2018)
A rangy, athletic frame that projects well. More of a fluid athlete, than a burner, quality feet on the infield, average hands and the necessary arm strength to stick on left-side of infield. Right-handed hitter that hits from tall, open setup, leg lift, solid rhythm, and flashes a short, direct path to the ball. Bat speed and strength at contact should only improve as he adds weight and strength.
+ Garrett Crochet, LHP, Ocean Springs HS(2017)
A 5-foot-10 left-hander with a lean, athletic frame. Long arm action into high-3/4 release with quick arm speed and effort. Fastball sat 81-83 mph with occasional arm side run. Breaking ball showed 2/8 shape with occasional depth and gradual break at 69-71 mph.
+ Brad Burkel, INF, TX(2018)
A Texas native that has a small, strong frame with quick twitch actions. Solid runner that picks them up and puts them down rapidly. Quality defender with actions, and solid feet playing on the right-side of infield. Short arm action into high-3/4 release, gets rid of it quickly making consistent firm throws. Left-handed hitter that hits from balanced setup, showing a line-drive, opposite field approach.
+ Brennan Taravella, RHP, Holy Cross HS(2017)
Recent Loyola (New Orleans) commit with a long arm action into low-3/4 release with effort and occasional deception. Fastball sat 77-79 mph with slight sinking action. Breaking ball showed sweeping action at 66-68 mph. Strike-thrower that works fast and can create issues for right-handed hitters.
+ Ian Landreneau, RHP, John Curtis HS(2018)
A 5-foot-11, 160-pound right-handed pitcher with mature frame. Long arm action, slight stab and wrap on backend into high-3/4 release and effort. Fastball sat 81-83 mph touching 84 mph with cut on the end. Curveball showed 11/5 shape with gradual break and near fastball arm speed at 65-66 mph. Also showed a slider with sweeping action, early break and near fastball arm speed at 69-72 mph.
