Louisiana Senior Games - Quick Hits

Alex Armand
Louisiana Scouting Director

The Louisiana Senior Games has become one of our marquee events every fall.  We again hosted the event on the campus of LSU-Eunice, home of the 7 time NJCAA DII National Champions.  The Bengals staff was in attendance, as well as a few other junior colleges from the region.  50 uncommitted senior prospects from across Louisiana participated in a pro-style workout to start the day which included: 60 yard dash, batting practice, defensive workout, and finished the day off with a game.  Below we highlight a few prospects who stood out on Saturday and increased their stock through the workout and their performance in game.

+ STAT LEADERBOARDS

Andrew Sieta SS / OF / Brother Martin, LA / 2023

Athletic and compact 5’7” 160 lbs. frame.  We’ve had the opportunity to see the Brother Martin product several times over the last couple of years and Sieta had another good showing on Saturday.  He started his day off by posting a 6.93 in the 60.  During batting practice, Sieta didn’t overwhelm with power, but showed a repeatable RHH swing with a short path working inside the baseball to contact with level extension, staying through the middle of the field.  He collected a single back up the middle during gameplay as well.

Tyler Corzine RHP / OF / Notre Dame , LA / 2023

Tall and lean 6’2” 165 lbs. frame with room to continue to add strength.  Corzine turned in one of the better performances on the mound at the Senior Games this past Saturday, as he was very efficient in his couple innings of work.  He sat 83-85 mph with his FB and worked up to 86 mph with minimal effort and more velocity in the tank.  His FB command, especially to his glove side is what stood out though.  He was able to pound FB’s low and away to RHH all day, while mixing in a solid low-70’s CB.

Lucas Harrington 3B / RHP / Southside , LA / 2023

Physical 5’9” 180 lbs. build with a strong lower half.  We had the chance to see the Southside product at our New Orleans ID this past summer and Harrington has continued to make strides heading into the fall.  Quick and athletic delivery with some effort, Harrington showcase a short and quick arm action on Saturday.  His control was spotty at times, but there was no denying the arm talent and his ability to get the most out of every pitch.  He worked his FB up to 90 mph, sitting 85-89 mph with good riding life through the zone.  The separator, however, was his 77-80 mph sharp and late breaking CB that registered spin rates in the 2600-2700 RPM range per Trackman Baseball.

Mason Bordelon 3B / 1B / Avoyelles Public Charter, LA / 2023

Physical 6’1” 180 lbs. frame.  Bordelon probably made the best impression on Saturday of the position players in attendance.  He moved well on the infield during the defensive workout, especially for someone with a more physical frame and showcased a good arm across the diamond (up to 86 mph).  Hitting from an upright and balanced stance, Bordelon used a simple load and stride before delivering direct path to the baseball with uphill extension.  He swung the bat with “controlled aggression” and was able to translate it to gameplay, as he collected a couple of barrels on the afternoon.

Gavin Jacobs C / OF / Benton, LA / 2023

Athletic 6’0” 185 lbs. frame with a strong lower half.  Jacobs is a guy that we’ve been able to track for a couple of years now and he put together his best showing in front of our staff on Saturday.  Defensively, is where the Benton product showed the most improvement, as he popped a personal best 1.95 from the crouch to go along with a 75 mph positional velocity.  During gameplay, he showed the vocal leadership traits that any coach wants to see out of their backstop and received and blocked the ball really well.  At the plate, he collected an opposite field double in his first at-bat and had another two strike single to left field in his 2nd at-bat.

Tanner Powell 1B / OF / Parkview Baptist, LA / 2023

Projectable 6’5” 195 lbs. frame with a ton of room to continue to add strength.  Powell was one of the more interesting prospects on Saturday and looks to be a guy that has a high ceiling.  He started his day off by running a respectable 7.19 in the 60.  Defensively, Powell has the height that you’re looking for in a 1B and he showed good footwork around the bag and on double plays with accurate throws to 2B.  A LHH, he uses a simple load and stride before working more linear to the baseball with backside which creates a direct path, staying in the middle of the field.  During gameplay, he collected a really nice opposite field single on a FB down and away.
