Louisiana Insider: Team Louisiana's Pre-Season Workout Notes Part Two

Prep Baseball Report Louisiana was in attendance for Team Louisiana’s January 4th workout. Earlier we took a look at five players that stood out from that workout. Today we take a look at few more players that raised some eyebrows at the event.

Branson Audette, 1B, 2016, Lafayette HS
A 6-foot-2, 200-pound uncommitted junior with an extremely physical frame that has obvious present strength. Left-handed hitter with smooth swing, plus bat speed, strength at contact and quality leverage in the swing. Hits to all fields, as he barreled several balls in live game situation over the weekend. Average defensive first baseman with good arm strength and a prototypical first base frame.

Christian Clayton, RHP/3B, 2015, Holy Cross HS
A 6-foot-2, 190-pound uncommitted senior from New Orleans, LA. Fastball was 80-82 mph at the workout with occasional late life. Tends to throw across his body with a fast arm that is long and loose in the back, but lacks extension at release. Flashed a good slider with tight spin and sharp, late break out of a good plane. Velocity has seen a dramatic decrease over the recent years that could stem from the significant change in his release point and slight changes in his delivery.

Logan Savoy, 2017, LHP, South Beauregard HS
A 5-foot-9, 170-pound uncommitted sophomore from the Lake Charles area that is ready to burst on the scene. Pitchability left-hander with a clean, fast arm out of a mid-3/4 release and a clean, in-line delivery. Fastball sat 80-82 mph with some life and was commanded to both sides the plate. Flashed a quality breaking ball with good 11/5 shape, tight spin, and depth. Also showed a quality feel for a changeup with arm speed, deception and late life.

Matthew Beck, 2016, RHP, Alexandria Senior High
A 6-foot-5, 200-pound uncommitted right-hander from Alexandria, LA. Big frame with wide shoulders and long arms. Clean, fast arm action with some effort out of a mid-3/4 release that has some tilt and angle. Fastball sat 84-85 mph and touched 86 with life. Breaking ball has 11/5 shape, spins correctly with decent depth and deception. Overall raw product with arm strength, size and upside.

 

Additional notes:

Matthew Muhleisen a 2016 graduate from Holy Cross HS showed well in the defensive portion of the workout with soft hands and quality arm strength.

TJ Norris a 2016 infielder from Catholic-New Iberia HS hit a towering home run to left field in live game action.

Blake Way a 2016 graduate from Northshore HS was extremely impressive at the plate, scorching numerous balls into both gaps off live pitching.
