Louisiana All-State Games Quick Hits - Catchers
November 16, 2020
Our team continues to provide post event coverage of the Louisiana All-State Games this week, as we take a look at the top catchers that were in attendance. This group of players includes several uncommitted prospects, as well as a 2021 prospect, that has recently started to work at the position for the first time in five years.
2023 Zach Schoenborn (Parkway HS)
Schoenborn has received a lot of attention coming out of the Louisiana All-State Games and for good reason. Physical, 6'1" 195 lbs. frame; the 2023 uncommitted prospect showed average footwork and developing arm strength that produced a 75 mph positional velocity and a pop time of 1.92-2.05. As the defense continues to develop; it will only make him more attractive, as his offense really shined at the event. The LHH catcher posted a 94 mph exit velocity, showing the ability to square up baseballs gap to gap, with the potential for more power to come.
2023 Cameran Christ (Live Oak HS)
The Louisiana All-State Games was the first chance that our staff got to zone in on the Mississippi State Bulldog commit. 6'0" 185 lbs. frame with room to add strength; Christ posted a 77 mph positional velocity that looks like it will increase as he continues to get stronger. Average footwork and release that resulted in a 1.95-2.00 pop time. Another LHH; Christ had a really professional round of BP, working the ball into the opposite field gap and then finishing his round off by squaring up a couple of balls to the pull side that produced a 92 mph exit velocity.
"Swiss Army Knife" would be the best term to describe the 2021 University of Louisiana signee. Debarge showed well in all portions of the All-State Games. Behind the plate, Debarge did a really good job of handling the pitchers during the game portion for someone who hasn't caught in five years. He received pitches well and even threw out a runner on a block and recover situation. Posted an event best 83 mph positional velocity for catchers and an event best 1.76-1.85 pop time.
2022 Carson Carey (Airline HS)
Physical, imposing, 6'2" 185 lbs. frame; Carey was one of the standout catcher's from the All-State Games. Created "game-like" times for our staff by staying down in the catching position longer than most. 78 mph positional velocity and 1.94-2.08 pop time. Strong hands and an above average receiver. Carey also had a good showing offensively, by posting a 97 mph exit velocity during the BP portion of the event.
Webb was one of the catching prospects we were excited to see at the All-State Games, following a great summer. Built from the ground up, with a strong lower half; Webb stays in his legs and behind the baseball to produce accurate throws to each base. Posted a 75 mph positional velocity with a 1.90-2.02 pop time. Received well during the game portion and blocked multiple pitches in the dirt, showing his tough, hard-nosed style of play.
