Louisiana 2020's

This week, On the Hunt locks in on intriguing 2020’s coming out of the state of Louisiana. Consistently athletic with many projectable arms, the Bayou State is always producing a strong crop of players. In this edition, impressive catchers, defensive middle infielders, and highly-projectable right-handed pitchers take centerstage.

Luke Acosta 2B / SS / St. Thomas More, LA / 2020

Acosta’s speed and athleticism may allow him to be a threat at the top of some school’s order at the next level. The 6.72-runner has a quick first step on the infield where he features twitchier hands and smooth all-around footwork before exhibiting a quick release with accurate throws. At the plate, the right-handed hitter sets up square with a wider base and his hands set just inside the back shoulder. He has a short stride that separates the hands back before working directly to the ball on a level plane with a high finish. Currently, Acosta shows the ability to spray line drives to all fields. At 5-foot-9, 135-pounds, Acosta will likely continue maturing physically in the future, and should add a substantial amount of strength before reaching a college campus. Overall, given his athleticism in the field and simple approach at the plate, coaches will want to continue monitoring Acosta’s progression throughout the summer.
