LAKE CHARLES, LA - The Lake Charles Rising Stars ID was held on May 20th at Barbe HS in Lake Charles, LA. This event was an open event that consisted of some of the top and upcoming talent from the 2027-2028 classes. These players went through extended pro-style workout that included batting practice using Trackman, ran the 60 yard dash using Swift Performance, and much more. Pitchers were able to throw in simulated bullpens during the workout and were able to get numbers and metrics. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing on at the event.

Positional Profile: C/3B

Defense: Showed soft hands, received the ball out front and clean into his funnel, turned the double play well with a quick release

Devyn Downs, Sterlington (LA), 2027 Louisiana State
Positional Profile: SS/RHP LSU commit and one of the top 2027's in the state
Body: 6-1, 175-pounds. Projectable, long, and lean
Hit: RHH. Starts in a slightly open and upright stance with hands held at shoulder height, uses a "hover" load and stride Swings with intent, gets on-plane early and stays through the ball with uphill extension, drove the ball really well from gap to gap showing present power to the middle of the field and pull-side gap
Power: 90 max exit velocity, averaged 86 mph. 331' max distance.
Arm: RH. INF-82 mph. Short and quick arm, 3/4 release
Defense: Takes longer strides, receives the ball with soft hands out front, moved well laterally and on bounder play, strong and accurate arm across the diamond
