LAKE CHARLES, LA - The Lake Charles Rising Stars ID was held on May 20th at Barbe HS in Lake Charles, LA. This event was an open event that consisted of some of the top and upcoming talent from the 2027-2028 classes. These players went through extended pro-style workout that included batting practice using Trackman, ran the 60 yard dash using Swift Performance, and much more. Pitchers were able to throw in simulated bullpens during the workout and were able to get numbers and metrics. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing on at the event.

Devyn Downs, Sterlington (LA), 2027 Louisiana State
Positional Profile: SS/RHP LSU commit and one of the top 2027's in the state
Body: 6-1, 175-pounds. Projectable, long, and lean
Delivery: Starts in the middle of the rubber and works to the 1B side of the rubber throughout a slower and controlled delivery, strides on-line and finishes square to his target
Arm Action: RH. Compact and clean arm path, releases the ball from a 3/4 slot
FB: 86 mph. Good life through the zone with some natural arm-side run T2454, 2324 average rpm.
CB: 80-85 mph. "11-5" with tight shape and break, can land for strikes T2492, 2430 average rpm.
SL: Two-plane break, equal parts of lateral break and depth, more of a swing & miss offering` T2484, 2438 average rpm.
CH: 72-73 mph. Sinks with late fade, keeps same arm stroke as FB T2088, 2047 average rpm.
KN: 73-74 mph.

Owen Galley, Welsh (LA), 2027
Positional Profile: 3B/RHP
Body: 5-11, 144-pounds. Athletic and lean
Delivery: Starts on the 1B side of the rubber and stays there throughout an athletic and repeatable delivery, turns front shoulder in, hides the ball well, finishes off to the 1B side some
Arm Action: RH. Longer arm and loose arm path with a 3/4 release
FB: 77 mph. Heavier sinking FB with some arm-side run T2022, 1946 average rpm.
CB: 75-76 mph. "10-4" shape with more lateral break than depth T2182, 2150 average rpm.
SL: More depth than his CB with some lateral break, more of a two-strike offering T2242, 2132 average rpm.
CH: 66-67 mph. Keeps same arm stroke as FB, sinks it T1666, 1646 average rpm.
KN: 67-68 mph.

Nicholas Gillett, Welsh (LA), 2027

Body: 5-9, 145-pounds. Athletic
Delivery: Starts in the middle of the rubber and stays there throughout a controlled delivery, pauses at the top of leg lift, strides on-line and finishes off to 1B side some
Arm Action: RH. Short arm path with an over the top release
FB: 71 mph. 4S stays true, 2S had good sink and some arm-side run T1797, 1716 average rpm.
CB: 69-71 mph. T2181, 2114 average rpm.
SL: "10-4" with lateral break and little depth, landed for strikes T2158, 2128 average rpm.

Jake Wooten, Parkview Baptist (LA), 2027

Body: 5-7, 135-pounds. Athletic with a physical lower-half
Delivery: Starts on the 3B side of the rubber and stays there throught a quicker delivery, lower leg lift, tilts his shoulders upward, finishes on-line to his target
Arm Action: LH. Long and loose with a low 3/4 to 3/4 release
FB: 76 mph. Arm-side run T1876, 1766 average rpm.
CB: 74-76 mph. "1-7" shape with good depth, spin, and bite T2414, 2370 average rpm.
