LA State Games - Catcher Analysis

On September 25th the PBR Louisiana Staff traveled to Tulane University to host the Louisiana State Games. The event featured more than 80 of the top 2023-2026 prospects from around the state and provided our staff an ample look at every player in attendance.

We continue the analysis from the event with a look at all of the catchers in attendance. We broke down the top-five catchers on the day followed by the rest of the catchers in attendance.
Top Catchers
1. Steven Spalitta, Fontainebleau (LA), 2023 Tulane
Positional Profile: C/SS Top performer at the State Games and recent Tulane commit
Body: 5-11, 185-pounds. Physical, athletic, strong lower-half
Hit: LHH. Starts in an open, upright, and balanced stance with hands held at shoulder height, uses a toe-tap load and stride. Tight turn to contact creates a short path to the ball with slightly uphill extension, had one of the best BP rounds on the day, worked gap to gap and had a lot of barrels, present power to the pull-side gap. Took 3 QAB's during gameplay with two hits.
Power: 96 max exit velocity, averaged 89.2 mph. 360’ max distance.
Arm: RH. C - 81.00 mph. Short and quick, releases from a 3/4 slot
Defense: 1.87-2.00 pop times. Very vocal behind the plate, received the ball extremely well and blocked the ball even better. Quick transfer with athletic footwork on throw downs to the bag.
Run: 6.71 runner in the 60.
2.Hunter Azemar, Southside (LA), 2023
Positional Profile: C/3B
Body: 6-0, 190-pounds. Athletic with physical lower-half
Hit: RHH. Starts in an open, balanced, and athletic stance, uses a simple load and stride to get to center. Drives his back knee through the ground, direct path to contact with uphill extension, stayed balanced from start to finish, showed present power to the pull-side.
Power: 98 max exit velocity, averaged 90.5 mph. 370’ max distance.
Arm: RH. C - 77.00 mph. Short and quick, releases from a high 3/4 slot
Defense: 1.89-2.02 pop times. Received the ball well and is an adequate blocker, athletic footwork on throw downs to the bag.
Run: 7.47 runner in the 60.
3. Cooper Winchester, St. Pauls (LA), 2024 Air Force
Positional Profile: C/OF
Body: 5-11, 185-pounds. Athletic, sturdy build
Hit: SH. Starts in a balanced, upright, and athletic stance with hands held at shoulder height, uses a simple load and stride from both sides to get to center. Right Side: direct patch to contact with slightly uphill extension, delivers a strong top hand to contact, stays gap to gap in his approach. Left Side: Hands held a little higher, dropped a heavy barrel to the ball with uphill extension, created natural loft and showed some present power to the pull-side gap.
Power: 93 max exit velocity, averaged 78 mph. 325’ max distance.
Arm: RH. C - 74.00 mph. Short and quick, releases from a high 3/4 slot
Defense: 1.90-2.01 pop times. Excellent receiver especially on the low pitch and blocked the ball well too, always in-tune to the game and is a great communicator.
Run: 7.5 runner in the 60.
4. Ridge Coats, Ouachita Christian (LA), 2026
Positional Profile: C/3B
Body: 6-0, 165-pounds. Physical
Hit: RHH. Starts in a wider and athletic stance, uses a simple load and stride to get to center Hands held at shoulder height, stays flat to contact and gets on plane early finishing uphill with two-hands, used his lower half well and showed some future pull-side power.
Power: 90 max exit velocity, averaged 86.4 mph. 309’ max distance.
Arm: RH. C - 69.00 mph. Short arm action with a 3/4 release
Defense: 2.20-2.31 pop times. Starts a little higher in his crouch, received the ball well, and showed to be an average blocker, quick transfer on throwdowns.
Run: 7.25 runner in the 60.
5. Evan Wright, Fontainebleau (LA), 2024
Positional Profile: C/RHP
Body: 5-10, 205-pounds. Physical
Hit: RHH. Starts in a balanced and athletic stance in his lower-half from the start and uses a simple load and stride to get to center. Showed bat speed and quick hands during BP, path to contact is short and flat with a slightly uphill finish, present power to the pull-side.
Power: 96 max exit velocity, averaged 83 mph. 345’ max distance.
Arm: RH. C - 73.00 mph. Short and quick, high 3/4 release
Defense: 2.00-2.12 pop times. Received the ball well and showed a quick transfer and athletic footowork on throw downs, blocks the ball well too.
Run: 7.78 runner in the 60.
BEST OF THE REST (LISTED ALPHABETICALLY)
Lenny Cline, Rummel (LA), 2025
Positional Profile: C/RHP
Body: 5-11, 155-pounds. Athletic with some lower half physicality
Hit: RHH. Starts in a wider and open stance with front foot turned in and weight pre-set on back side. Knee to knee load and stride Uses his lower half to turn the barrel aggressively to contact with uphill extension working mostly to the pull-side.
Power: 95 max exit velocity, averaged 85.5 mph. 340’ max distance.
Arm: RH. C - 76.00 mph. Short and quick, releases from his right ear at a 3/4 slot
Defense: 2.02-2.17 pop times. Solid receiver with an ok transfer, popped up out of his squat on throw downs at times.
Run: 7.13 runner in the 60.
Brody Giglio, Rummel (LA), 2026
Positional Profile: C/SS
Body: 5-7, 150-pounds. Athletic
Hit: RHH. Starts in a slightly open, balanced, and athletic stance, uses a modified leg kick load and stride Gets on plane early and finishes slightly uphill through the ball with a two-handed finish, maintained balance from start to finish and made consistent hard contact
Power: 79 max exit velocity, averaged 75.4 mph. 234’ max distance.
Arm: RH. C - 69.00 mph. Short arm action, high 3/4 release
Defense: 2.07-2.25 pop times. Good receiver, works ground up on the low pitch and sticks it well, tough hard-nosed kid can play multiple positions
Run: 7.93 runner in the 60.
William Good, Jesuit (LA), 2023 Tulane
Positional Profile: 3B/RHP
Body: 6-2, 190-pounds. Physical, athletic
Hit: RHH. Starts in an open, upright, and tall stance, uses a leg kick load and stride to get to center. Hands held high and showed a steep path to contact with uphill extension, still a little raw at the plate, but showed present power to the pull-side.
Power: 100 max exit velocity, averaged 78.9 mph. 315’ max distance.
Arm: RH. C - 79.00 mph. Short arm action, releases from a 3/4 slot
Defense: 1.92-2.04 pop times. Received the ball ok behind the dish, came out of his crouch a little early on throw downs, did show arm strength behind the plate, just needs to clean up footowork and transfer a bit.
Run: 7.08 runner in the 60.
Brody Harlow, Sulphur (LA), 2024
Positional Profile: C/1B
Body: 6-2, 175-pounds. Tall and lean
Hit: RHH. Starts in a balanced and athletic stance with hands held at shoulder height, uses a simple load and stride to get to center. Took some aggressive swings in BP, direct path to contact with an uphill two-handed finish, stayed balanced throughout swing and worked gap to gap.
Power: 82 max exit velocity, averaged 77.7 mph. 264’ max distance.
Arm: RH. C - 70.00 mph. Short arm action with a high 3/4 release
Defense: 2.15-2.23 pop times. Good hip mobility from the crouch, received the ball well, showed a good transfer on throwdowns to the bag, good communicator on the field.
Run: 7.75 runner in the 60.
Hayes Hebert, St. Thomas More (LA), 2025
Positional Profile: C
Body: 5-10, 155-pounds. Athletic
Hit: LHH. Slightly open and balanced stance with good rhythm in his hands, uses a simple load and stride. Direct and steeper path to contact with uphill extension, works mostly to the pull-side.
Power: 85 max exit velocity, averaged 73.1 mph. 254’ max distance.
Arm: RH. C - 71.00 mph. Short and quick, releases from a 3/4 slot
Defense: 2.01-2.15 pop times. Quality receiver with good footwork and a clean transfer.
Run: 8.05 runner in the 60.
Bryce Landreneau, DeRidder (LA), 2024
Positional Profile: C/RHP
Body: 6-3, 195-pounds. Physical
Hit: RHH. Starts in a tall and upright stance with hands held at shoulder height, uses a knee to knee load and stride. Works uphill to contact with a one-handed finish working up through the ball, stayed under control during BP working gap to gap.
Power: 88 max exit velocity, averaged 70 mph. 191’ max distance.
Arm: RH. C - 77.00 mph. Short and quick with a high 3/4 release
Defense: 2.17-2.28 pop times. Started a little higher in his crouch, received the ball well and showed improved footwork on throwdowns to the bag.
Run: 7.7 runner in the 60.
Hayden LeBleu, Iowa (LA), 2025
Positional Profile: C
Body: 5-9, 175-pounds. Physical and compact
Hit: RHH. Starts in his legs in a balancd and athletic stance with hands held at shoulder, using a simple load and stride. Stays flat to contact with a level one-handed finish, repeated his swing well and showed some barrel whip, stayed balance from start to finish and showed some present pull-side power.
Power: 91 max exit velocity, averaged 82.4 mph. 303’ max distance.
Arm: RH. C - 77.00 mph. Short arm action, 3/4 release
Defense: 1.94-2.06 pop times. Tough, hard-nosed kid who works to block every ball, receives the ball well behind the dish and showed good footwork and a clean transfer on throwdowns to the bag.
Run: 6.95 runner in the 60.
Egan Prather, Brother Martin (LA), 2025
Positional Profile: C/3B
Body: 5-11, 180-pounds. Physical
Hit: RHH. Starts in a slightly open, upright and balanced stance, uses a knee to knee load and stride. Flat path to contact with a two-handed level finish, front arm bars at times creating a little length in the swing, did show some pull-side power during BP.
Power: 84 max exit velocity, averaged 77.7 mph. 280’ max distance.
Arm: RH. C - 73.00 mph. Short arm action, 3/4 release
Defense: 2.02-2.11 pop times. Received the ball well, starts a little higher in crouch, quick transfer with athletic footwork on throw downs to the bag.
Run: 7.45 runner in the 60.
